Ferrara wants Santacroce Saturday 27 June, 2009

Juventus Coach Ciro Ferrara would like Napoli centre-back Fabiano Santacroce at the heart of his defence, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
The Bianconeri have already signed Fabio Cannavaro this summer, but the 35-year-old had a poor Confederations Cup and some believe he only has one more season left in his tank.
Earlier this week, Juventus sold Olof Mellberg to Olympiacos, leaving them short of numbers at centre-back ahead of a gruelling season.
Ferrara is a keen admirer of Santacroce, who has a gift for tactics and is renowned for playing in a number of positions across the backline.
Before Ferrara got the Juventus job, he said: “My heir at Napoli is Santacroce,” showing just how high he holds him in regard.
The 22-year-old, who was born in Brazil but grew up in Italy, has great margins of improvement and can rejuvenate the Juventus defence.
However, he has a contract with Napoli until 2012.
The Partenopei are said to be asking for £5m, but could let him go a little cheaper now they have signed Juan Zuniga from Siena.
Juventus already had the chance to sign Santacroce last year, but the Bianconeri passed up the opportunity to do so.
The error apparently cost a Juventus scout his job.
