GB News is so awful that one of its founders Andrew Neil - a very right wing journalist but one with a good reputation - left it right after it's founding because he didn't realise everybody else wanted to replicate the Fox News-style trash instead of build a serious news company.

This story is a non-starter. Red meat for right wing knuckledraggers. Based on the sentencing numbers there is already a two-tier system in place. The idea is that a pre-sentencing report should be available [if requested] by a judge for more background information on the person in question in an attempt to remove bias which clearly -based on the numbers, again.

"White Christians are being oppressed!!!" is the cry and it's honestly laughable.

I think the actual aim is to bring down the number of people in prison because the country is broke. Doing this by taking steps to address the bias against minorities and those with neurodivergencies is pretty funny imo. Tacit acknowledgement of how rotten the judicial system is and has been - but the far right grifters use the opportunity to wring their hands and play the downtrodden.
Thanks. Not knowing GB News I felt a explanation like this coming.

*found guilty in embezzling eu funds, around 3m euros is being reported

no wonder orbán, an avid eu money thief instantly posted "je suis marine" lol
I hope the opposition wins in Hungary and Orban gets his .
Although I suspect he is going to escape the country if he suspects that his defeat is imminent .

he'd call the army on the protesters before leaving office

now that the polls look bad for them and even worse by ever passing day, some opposition representative asked him whether there would be a peaceful transfer of power in case they lose the elections. his response: the elections will be democratic

Someone post the 'and its gone' meme please

    For context:
You're referring to the events leading up to the Nixon Shock in 1971, which ended the direct convertibility of the US dollar to gold. Here's the story:

    Post-WW2: Bretton Woods System (1944-1971)

After World War II, many countries decided to store their gold in the United States for security reasons. In 1944, the Bretton Woods Agreement established a global monetary system where:

    • The US dollar was tied to gold at a fixed rate of $35 per ounce.
    • Other currencies were pegged to the US dollar.
    • Countries could exchange their dollars for gold at any time.

This made the US dollar the world’s reserve currency, backed by American gold reserves.

The Problem: US Spends Too Much

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the US government printed more dollars than it had gold reserves to support economic growth, fund military spending (especially in Vietnam), and pay for social programs. This meant that the US didn't have enough gold to cover all the dollars it had issued.

Countries, especially France under Charles de Gaulle, started demanding their gold back, sensing the US might not be able to honor all its obligations. Large amounts of gold were withdrawn, and US reserves started to shrink.

1971: Nixon Ends the Gold Standard (Nixon Shock)

By 1971, the situation became unsustainable. If everyone kept demanding gold for their dollars, the US would run out of gold. To prevent this, President Richard Nixon unilaterally ended the gold convertibility on August 15, 1971. This meant:

    • Foreign countries could no longer exchange their US dollars for gold.
    • The value of the dollar was no longer tied to a fixed gold price.

This effectively ended the Bretton Woods system and led to the modern system of fiat currencies, where money has value because governments say it does, not because it's backed by gold.

    Impact of the Nixon Shock

    • The US dollar became a free-floating currency, meaning its value was determined by market forces.
    • Inflation increased in the US, as the government could print money without worrying about gold reserves.
    • The world moved to a system of fluctuating exchange rates instead of fixed ones.

Since then, the US has never returned to the gold standard, and most of the world still uses a fiat currency system. Some countries, like China and Russia, have been increasing their gold reserves in recent years, possibly to reduce reliance on the US dollar.

I really like, and at the same time I really dislike these recent bans on running for office in Romania and France. On one hand, I like that Europe remembers its history and is actively trying to prevent the rise of extremism. On the other hand, once such bans become politically acceptable, some future governments may be tempted to use them more frequently or strategically, even against opponents who are simply inconvenient. This creates fears that it could open the door to more authoritarian behavior, especially in countries where the courts are not fully independent from political influence.
I fear that, paradoxically, the attempt to prevent extremism will fuel extremism, and that the desire to protect democracy from extremism might end up damaging democracy itself.

Le pen found guilty and banned from running for elections 5 years
The problem is that supporters of populists see this as a proof that THEY ARE AFTER US.

It's happening in Poland now. The former government was extremely corrupt and not in a smart way. So now some of them are in prison or waiting for it. And of course they are martyrs to the 30% of our voters + 15% of our extreme right voters.

LePenn will be a martyr for French populists without a doubt.

extremists are rarely banned because they are extremists. there are some red lines like nazi or communist symbols, other than that, even extremes can freely operate in most european countries. we have openly racist parties, germans have obvious neo nazis above 20% and le pen and his lunatic father has been in the frontline of french politics since decades, marine could have won the next elections. they are tolerated

le pen was caught embezzling money. that's a crime. her party is not excluded from anything, they can and will replace le pen. same with the romanian russian asset, he used banned campaign funds iirc. that's also a crime

it's the current regime's task to communicate with the utmost transparency (not the leavitt way) why these people were banned from running. i don't see any drama here.

however you still have a point regardless of what happened recently in romania or france: extreme populists like trump might create fake scenarios and abuse their power anytime. they don't give a shit about truth, transparency, decency, basic democratic values. "i was hunted for 4 years" isn't true but gives trump a fake reason to go after anyone he chooses to target, and similar scenarios can happen anywhere with a russia backed elected official. the danger is there, but not because of the le pen case

this is consistently one of the best comedy accounts out there

What's the situation out there like for olive tone skins? Are they also treated harshly or they have equal right?
If I as a non white person with olive skin flirt with a blonde, will they arrest/interrogate me harshly ?
What do you think the UK is? Bruh jump on a plane right now and get fired right into the wee dirties. There are thousands of sluts waiting to suck your balls right now. With the lights off there is no skin colour.
