AfD were never gonna make it into the government. Shit was never in question. There isn't a single party that would go together with them.
They were always "just" going to be the biggest oppositionell party.
But no, close to 30% isn't a big win for the CDU at all, and close to 20% certainly isn't what I'd call underperforming for AfD either - they can be VERY happy with this result. So I'd disgaree with the tweet here.

Already looks like the new government is gonna be underwhelming. It has to be a 3 party coalition most likely, that would prolly mean SPD and the green party find their way back into government, even though no one wanted them anymore...

And our current Labor government at the moment isn’t perfect at all, but they’ve overseen a nice reduction in inflation (started under the auspices of the previous right wing government) and have overseen two surpluses as well.
