With Bosnia's performance yesterday, they will definately make it to the world cup.
I didn't watch the match as I wanted to and I was only watching from time to time, but from what I could see it was an amateurish 1st half from the Bosnians. They were so scared and so confused that they indeed looked like Uzbekistan, as Swag said. After they conceded it was a little better because they didn't seem scared anymore, but still all their problems were obvious. Very slow defense and midfield. The only movement they had was on the wings and by the strikers. The one who is supposed to create the play, Misimovic, was a ghost.

What i'm saying is that with their performance from yesterday, they surely won't make it to the world cup, contrary to what you're saying.

They'll be missing important players, especially the captain Spahic and Rahimic, so it's another handicap. The result from the first leg is even bigger handicap. The defeat was probably deserved, but Bosnians must have scored at least once with the 2-3 100% chances they had. 2:1 defeat would have been different than 1:0.

If they approach the match without fear and with confidence that they can make it, then it will be interesting, especially if Misimovic starts performing.
In any other case, they're surely out.

Well fuck that.

Who am I to question Trapattoni but I thought we were overly defensive. I mean, we've been defensive since he took over and it has worked but tonight was ridiculous. It was 4-6-0 most of the time.

When Leon Best was brought on (presumably to try and score!) the last instruction ho got from Liam Brady before entering the pitcth was "be sure to help out the midfield". :sergio:

We wasted an oppurtunity tonight. France were there for the taking if we had the balls to do it. I think we're fucked now. I can't see us winning in Paris.

I thought Anelka was brilliant tonight though. Best I've ever seen him play.
Ireland's problem is not the formation, but the players. No-one in that team is capable of putting their foot on the ball and making a few passes. This meant that France were able to be totally dominant and it was just a matter of time until the goal came.

And Lassana Diarra was the best player on the pitch by a mile.

Alen, you pretty much said what I said on the previous page so I agree :D. We have no chance Wednesday if we play like this. With a bit more luck we would have scored, yes, but that doesn't take away the fact that we deserved to lose and that our play was nothing like in previous matches.

There's one big reason for this: Misimovic. The guy was extremely disappointing. He is usually the driving force of the team, all the play runs through him, but last night he was totally invisible. Which is also the reason I still have some hope for the next leg, because we created decent chances without him, if he can regain his confidence we'll be twice as dangerous upfront.

The concern remains the defence though and without Spahic and Rahimic it's gonna be an open house at the back. We'll need a miracle to keep a clean sheet.

French 'disrespect' riled Andrews

Republic of Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews says a "disrespectful comment" led to the final-whistle spat in the World Cup play-off first leg.

Andrews had a row with France's Lassana Diarra after the Croke Park contest on Saturday although the Irishman has refused to reveal what was said.

"I felt a comment one of their players made was disrespectful, not just towards me but the lads," said Andrews.

"You don't really expect that sort of comment from a fellow professional."

Andrews refused to elaborate on the precise nature of the comment but the suggestion is that the tenor of Diarra's comments was that the tie was over.

However, the Blackburn player insisted neither he nor his team-mates need any added incentive going into Wednesday night's return leg at the Stade de France.

Andrews added: "If we needed any more motivation other than getting to the World Cup there would be something wrong with us.

"It's nothing. The lads are fully aware of what he said, but we don't really need extra motivation.

"We are hell-bent on getting to this World Cup and it is certainly not over."

Andrews' heated conversation with the Real Madrid star, was followed by a shoving match in which Richard Dunne and Yoann Gourcuff became involved.

The Blackburn midfield acknowledged that he had been annoyed by the episode.

"I lost my head a little bit. I felt it was a comment that wasn't really needed, especially considering the tie is only halfway through."

Nicolas Anelka's deflected 72nd-minute shot ultimately divided the sides in Dublin but Andrews insists that the tie is still alive.

"We have certainly got a lot of positives to take from the game.

"We did create chances and a few decisions went against us, but we know we can improve as well.

"We know that was not our best performance by any means and we are thoroughly looking forward to this game.

"We feel we limited them to a few chances and we are going to go there looking to force the pace and really stamp our authority on this game."

The formation will always be the same for Ireland, what I had a problem with is the level of respect Ireland showed to France. We were far too cautious. France aren't anything like as good as they used to be, I felt we had to attack them a bit more in the home leg to have any chance of getting through.

What exactly was Keane supposed to do when he was back helping the midfield most of the time and whenever his team mates got the ball it was hoofed over his head?

Lawrence did nothing, he's too slow and shit at dribbling to ever get past a decent fullback. He does take good freekicks though.

He was supposed to make something of the 4 or 5 chances he was given and not fall flat on his arse and moan to Duffer everytime something went wrong.

Maybe you and I saw different performances from Liam.

Lawrence only plays because he tracks back, unlike McGeady, and there's always half a chance of him doing something from a free kick.

He managed to beat him more times than McGeady normaly does and from where I was sitting he was one of if not the best player for us going forward.

The Honeymonster was imense also.

Agreed with Alen,
As much as I want to see them go, i'd rather want them to stay home rather than see those kind of amateurish games in WC, i don't want to see another 8-0 game in world cup. They lost possession to easily and the only way they'd go to portugal's defense was long balls. I hope they play a better game next fixture!
