so what's the deal with France & Portugal? how close are they to not making it to the WC

France can be almost certain of making it to at least the play-offs as all they have to do is beat the Faroe Islands and then their match against Austria is meaningless. Portugal's hopes are all dependent upon Sweden slipping up. Both teams have two games to play and Sweden are on 15 points while Portugal only have 13. Hungary are on 13 points as well so they shouldn't be ignored. Here are the remaining fixtures in their group:

Portugal - Hungary
Denmark - Sweden
Portugal - Malta
Denmark - Hungary
Sweden - Albania

Results from the first two matches are likely to decide it, and it seems Portugal have a much easier match. Denmark have a good lead but a pair of difficult matches ahead and Sweden could usurp first place. Denmark and Sweden are the only sides with a realistic shot at first but Portugal and Hungary are still in it for the playoffs. I think Denmark are a point away from being assured of at least second place. This will probably be the most interesting group in Uefa come October. Good luck to Sweden and Denmark in knocking out Portugal
