Playing the best part of your career in the era of defense-free, score-all-you-want footie will do that to ya ;)
I think you already know that I agree with you here. Both Ronaldo and Messi are massively overrated because of the era they play in.

But I don't really see the point in underrating them either. They're comfortably top 10 attacking players of all-time and how that top 10 is organized is a fool's game. Cross-era comparisons are impossible.

But he does. Scoring against Hungary doesn't change that. Portugal have always been a pretty good side, who people thought could win something.

But the last years, they've been absolutely dire. Nobody thought they could do anything this year (they played horrible too), but now they're in the final. It was the system and nothing else.
Which Portuguese players have helped Ronaldo the last 8 years? Nani? Quaresma?

Ronaldo took 20 games and 4 tournaments to get to 9 goals. Platini did it in 5 games.

Ronaldo has had 43 direct free-kicks in major tournaments and not scored a single goal from them.

I don't know. Even Italy got a lot of praise in the media this time around. I think the early 2000's were bad. You had Euro 2000 and that was just catenaccio with the best forward line at the time and our own final v Milan in 2003 that were very bad for the image of Italian football.
We need to realise at some point italy had : m

Baggio
Del Piero
Totti
Vieri
Inzaghi

Albertini
Conte
Di Livio
Zambrotta
Di Matteo

Maldini
Nesta
Cannavaro
Costacuerta

Toldo
Buffon
Perruzzi
Pagliuca

And the coach was like 'you know what, we'll play like its 1969". :sergio:
