Conte will know who's Italy gonna play in the first knockout round. Croatia, Czech Republic and possibly Spain will be 2nd in group D and face Italy in the knockouts.
I'm guessing that Italy won't play the same formation against all three possible opponents.
He'll have the formation and players for the knockouts in his head and according to that he'll choose the players who'll face Ireland. Those who won't be planned to play in the first knockout round will play against the Irish.
