Sucks for Slovenia, but I can't say either side really "deserved" it.

Honestly, this might be the worst Euros I've ever seen. So much talk about how Euro sides are soooooo better than South American, but:

This is the worst Italy I've ever seen... like ever ever ever
This is the worst Portugal I've ever seen... like ever
This is the worst England side I've ever seen... but is the best England squad ever
Worst Nederlands team ever
Worst France side ever who can't even score from open play
Probably worst German side every
Spain has to rely on a 16 year old
Worst Beglian side ever

They should count themselves lucky they are playing the Euros and not the Copa.
This may be so, but some of those Copa games were painful. No skill whatsoever. Aside from Uruguay, no side is really impressive.

The one time he didn't jinx it...ffs
Congrats for what your team has achieved. Back in the late 80s and early 90s, Slovenia had (by far) the worst clubs in Yugoslavia and then, after the independence, the worst team of all ex-YU teams. Now your guys were the only ones from those 6 ex-YU NTs that made the knockouts, and you can be proud of these results. Your men leave undefeated in 90 or 120 minutes.
And I know how you must be feeling right now. I had a similar feeling in 2008 when my team scored a 119 minute goal, which was 99.9999% a winning quarterfinals goal vs Turkey, just to concede in the last seconds of the 122nd minute and then lose on penalties by missing three penalties (3/4 though). And of course, that 98th minute goal from Italy last week :(

I agree. That’s why it was such a tragedy u lost the World Cup final to France in the final with a lucky undeserved goal

oh wait.
Look, we're never going to agree and that's okay.

You're a large cat and I'm a number. It's natural for us to view things differently.

If only slovakia defended the way Slovenia defended today
Tbh, I thought Slovenia was worse than when they drew against Italy. Portugal couldn’t put together two passes together in the final third. That they held them to a shutout was more Portugal futility than a Slovenian defensive masterclass.

Part of that fault goes to the players who could not execute useful passes or shots. But Martinez also left his mark. How a Ronaldo direct free kick did not send any players forward for a punch back to an oncoming attacker. How Slovenia would double-team on the wings, and Martinez never bothered to give instructions to exploit the open player. How he waited until the 116th minute for his 3rd sub. Just inexcusable.

Meanwhile, annoying images on the TV here. Portuguese celebrating in the streets like that wasn’t a complete embarrassment.

Agreed.

Outside the first round of matches, it’s been absolutely pitiful to watch. Insanely boring.

I don't think the Euros are bad, I think the coaching of the smaller teams have improved massively. Solid and organised teams are out-playing teams of stars. Perhaps these big name teams are too arrogant or maybe they're not that good as first thought, certainly players like Foden and Saka are only good when carried by their managers and foreigners at their club.

Maybe the pool of genuinely world class players is small now. Either way, I like it and am loving how smaller teams have progressed so much. I also appreciate the winner will likely deserve it, ie, my pick Spain is having to really play well to get through whereas the frauds like Italy and England will eventually be beaten.

I can imagine exactly what kind of kid Palmeri was at school, know what I mean?
Yeah.

And it's stupid to target De Bruyne like that. Not only has De Bruyne always said he considered other nations at least as strong or stronger than Belgium, he has also been saying for years now the team is nowhere near as good as it was in 2018. He's the first player to criticize our performances.

Personally I've never really cared for the Euros. It's a major tournament of course, but it's the same kind of tactics we see in European football only performed less well because the teams don't train together as much.

The World Cup allows for a different atmosphere entirely. An Italy v Brazil game or the Netherlands v Argentina, yeah, much much more interesting.

On the other hand…

It’s the best Swiss team ever
Best Austrian team in decades
Most entertaining Spain side in ages.
Some heroic performances from unfancied teams like Georgia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.

May not be the best performances from the top teams but this tournament has been one of the most entertaining ones of late results wise . Smaller nations giving heroic performances and showing sheer determination.

Besides the top teams are all playing this bullshit conservative playing style drilled by their managers. Everyone suddenly looks to be part of the Allegri School of Football. This is narrowing the gap with the smaller nations, similar to how we’ve seen Juventus play against empoli etc in the last few seasons.

Football in general is just poor at the moment with all this emphasis on tactics, rigid shapes and patterns. At least there’s hope, what I’ve seen in these tournaments is that players who dare to dribble and take on their defenders are splitting open defences and creating space again. Let’s hope creative players will be on the rise once more

These big teams have players that have already played between 45 and 60 matches and probably just want to be on some beach somewhere , like they usually are this time of the year.

For the players of the smaller teams this is a chance far a contract that comes once in a lifetime. So of course they want to give it their best and are more motivated to do good.
Hence the performances.
