2006 WC final : Opposition early goal France 1-0
2020 Euro final: Opposition early goal England 1-0

2006 WC final: Italy goal to a defender from a corner 1-1
2020 Euro final: Italy goal to a defender from a corner 1-1

2006 WC final: Italy win on penalties
2020 Euro final: Italy win on penalties

I knew Italy had won it when England scored early. They were always going to sit back and concede.

Because he reached the final, the English think he came close. But the truth is Southgate is quite possibly the worst manager they could have had. He got everything wrong during the entire tournament, up to the penalty shoot out in the final. Through sheer luck and weak opposition they still found themselves in a unique position though, but dear old Gareth gave them the final push. No team can take so many awful decisions and still walk away with the trophy.

“Thanks to you. To all of you, because in this incredible adventure, we brought you in. You were in front of our eyes and inside our hearts,” the 36-year-old wrote.
“The pain of those who suffered, the fatigue of those who were brought to their knees by the pandemic. The desire to return to life.
“The faces of women, men, old people, young people, children and those who saved our lives: the doctors. You pushed us, you helped us, you sang with us.
“The result is only a part of the game but this result, this victory, these tears of joy are dedicated to you. We wrote the story! Forza Azzurri.”

- Giorgio Chiellini.

What a captain, what a human being

Indian and black guy the ones with racist slogans :touched:

Goddamnit Chiellini and the Azzurri really set the globohomo back 20 years by disrupting the hidden diversity plot UEFA tried to weave out of this grim makeshift tournament

This was one of the most troll cup wins in football history.

Italy ditched Ventura and luckily faced England’s own Ventura in the final. They thought they were so close but they really weren’t.

Give Southgate more credit than that. Ventura was a disastrous joke in every way. Southgate built a tactical defensive power unit that only conceded 2 set pieces and zero open play goals all season, grinded to a being a kick away from the title.

It was super conservative, boring, limited and at times cowardly approach (England have attacking qualities he didn't wanna use). But pk shootout swings other way and he would been hailed as a defensive masterclass coach.

Ventura got embarrassed by EVERYONE he faced.

Impressively captain material.

Remember France?
England might win WC 2022 :scared:
But that France was a solid squad. This is one of the best England squads in years, but they're not there yet. They're just learning now how to suffer before they can achieve. And I do not see them getting past either Belgium or Spain, if not for being the home side and having the softest path to the final.

That said, England always seems to end up in soft brackets the way that Arsenal does in the CL. The saving grace is usually they collapse when they are finally faced with a quality opponent.

Morning after and it's still perfect.

- Itally winning after not being mentioned as a potential candidate ever
- Juve players doing great
- Winning final against overhyped England which I always tie with EPL that I really can't stand

It's a perfect victory and it feels so fucking great.
Yessir. And doing it in Wembley in front of the entire Shrek convention.

It’s always a beautiful day when you realise a sea of fat Sharons and fat, red faced, alcoholic, human thumb looking scum all went home from the tournament with a sense of crushing disappointment.

Bonus:...and they all went home with the Delta variant.

I wouldn't call Southgate the worst. But yes, I do think scoring so early set them up for trouble as the game wore on. Still, it had to go to penalties... even if Italy was bossing most of the possession after about the 20th minute.

His PK taker subs were amateurishly laughable. His five-man backline after an early goal up felt like a Verona tactic used against Juve, not someone who wanted to be crowned European champs.
