Faroes and Luxembourg are probably skewing the perception of that because they actually have run a few teams close or grabbed draws or the odd win here and there. They and Malta are a tier above the very bottom tier Euro minnows, Malta always have been. San Marino, Andorra, Liechtenstein and Gibraltar are the four that should always be beaten by at least 2 or 3, no matter the opposition.

The reality is that football's format suits giant killing far more so than other popular team sports, and as these players get fitter and able to set up competent tactical units they have the odd chance to steal a point or maybe even nick a goal.
But... But... I thought it was the Brazilian heat that gave the little teams an advantage

Eh? It gave teams who are used to the heat an advantage.

Brazil aren't that bad.
What i meant is that we'll see more and more smaller teams being successful to an extent. When the sport becomes physical, anyone can be anyone's equal. Teams that in the past would be absolutely crushed now have the weapon to fight back. Of course the very technical teams will still be expected to win and should win.

Oh and I was being ironic with the heat comment. It played a small part and doesn't tell the whole story. Physicality in modern Football does.

Yeah it's quite funny how San Marino can put together a team of bankers, postmen etc and still play with high level pros up until around the 60th-70th minute now, they might be training 3-4 times a week.

That would be unthinkable in the past. It would very rarely ever happen. That's why when people try to compare today's Football to the golden era it's silly. There was a tremendous gap between the big and small fishes. Now all you need is to understand the basics of the sport to become a Professional, you don't need to be good at it though.

You put together a group of people who understand the basics of Football and have the fitness to run all day long, there you have something to challenge the bigger names.
