Stephen Ward is a gypsy what do you expect?
I expected them to put up a fight. Everyone always praises the Irish for their willpower and sportsmanship, but they lack both and they have been lacking both for quite some time now. But yeah, let's all bitch about Henry's handball and say how unlucky Ireland were today. They never tried to win the game FFS.

Second goal looked offside. Ireland could have had a penalty kick in their favour as well. But it was still an easy win for Croatia.
Wasn't offside. I mean, the goalscorer was offside when Modric took the shot, but Modric was neither passing, nor did the ball deflect to Jelavic. After the Irish got the ball it counts as a whole new action and in that new action their defender did the most stupid thing he could and passed straight to Jelavic.
They should have had a penalty though. It was a foul on the line, which is a penalty. Good thing they didn't, though. Mandzukic was on the ground and the entire Croat team was asking for the Irish to kick the ball out, which they refused to do. Fair play doesn't seem to be their forte, it seems.

Yeah yeah yeah. If you fuck up and lose because you fuck up, it means you suck.
So we've established that we lost because we fucked up not because Croatia were amazing, good.

Sportmanship? What? Yeah, Ireland throw themselves on the floor like the Italians and Spanish, or kick people around the pitch like violent Belgian thugs..hmmm

Bullshit. Ireland were never even in this game. Croatia is simply a much better side. I expected more from Ireland to be honest.
they are a better side, but the got some lucky goals at very favorible times, right before halftime, and right after. at 1-1 it was still a game. the ref also was clearly judging in favour of croatia.

I meant when Modric (?) made the first pass. Two of Croatia players looked offside.
Wasn't a pass. He was shooting on goal. He was shooting on the right side of the goal and Jelavic was on the far left. Jelavic's offside wasn't activated at all because it wasn't a goalkeeper save from Modric's shot that got him the ball and it wasn't a deflection directly from Modric's shot. The Irish got the ball and literally passed to Jelavic. That's a new action.

It really isn't and it always annoys me, because sports commentators will always dub the Irish the "nice" team and support them. Same fucking thing every time.

I see.

As for the penalty incident, the guy on the ground went down at every aerial duel, the ref knew it as well and that's why he let the game go on even though the player was pretending to have a head injury (something refs stop games for all the time). Not being fair to an unfair team is not that unfair imo.

The Irish are not a nice side, mate. And violent Belgian thugs kicking people? When did that happen?

No, don't present yourselves the way you always do. I don't know why the Irish always have so many fans. Probably because they're all around the globe. Truth is, they can't stand losing, even though they suck. Today you didn't even TRY to win. No chances whatsoever, no going forward, no emotions, no nothing. From minute 1 it was obvious you weren't going to win, simply because you didn't TRY.

agreed!

Mandzukic is just an ugly cheat. scønfield or what ever his name is, he atleast 1 foul that should be a penalty, maybe 2. there was also a clear push in the penalty area. the ref was pretty bad imo

Croatia goals coming from defensive errors Ireland players had doesn't get anything from the fact that Ireland never looked nearly as good as Croatia. All they could do was making long balls/crosses which Croatia knew how to defence except in a few occasions.

Incorrect. He won like...ALL of the aerial duels until the 60th minute or so and on top of it he scored two headers. Then he suddenly stopped winning them. Maybe because he was simulating and maybe because he was really fouled after the Irish saw that they can't get to the ball when he's jumping.

Very little to take away from this game though. You faced a side with a loser mentality. Rather than playing the game, they try to lose by not too big a margin so they can afterwards claim they could have won "if they had just been given that penalty". Always the same story with the Irish. Croatia looked far better, but the Irish are destined to lose, because that's what they want.

:agree:

Ireland are by far the weakest in this group. Croatia is much better than them, but much weaker than the other two. The Croatian criminally weak defense was exposed on some occasions even tonight. You can imagine what will happen when they face players who can play on the ground.
Only luck can take Croatia to the next round. Even if we go to the quarters, which I obviously hope, it will be at the expense of a better team.

How on earth do you remember the exact situation?

Spain are obviously the best side in the group and will win against Croatia. Italy are, in my opinion, a whole lot better than Croatia. But they're nowhere near as good as the Italy of 2006 for example. Prandelli seems to be doing a good job, in the sense that he, unlike most Italian coaches, prevents the players from either getting stressed out or becoming arrogant. But Italy are notorious for choking against weaker teams. And the Italians rarely do well against Croatia (although getting all your goals cancelled for imaginary offside doesn't help ;)).
