When are people going to actually watch Portugal play and realize Ronaldo has mostly sucked ass for Portugal? It's like people every match feel like this is a new discovery or a surprise or something. Nani has always been the Portugal NT's best and most impactful player. They almost didn't make it past the Euro 2008 qualifiers until Ronaldo (thankfully) went down to injury.

What's killing Portugal right now is that Nani is not at his best, and Coentrao has been having defensive lapses. Perreira always was the weakest link since Bento decided to have hissy fits with Bosingwa, so you can't do anything there. But perhaps the worst player on the pitch on the night wasn't Ronaldo but a surprisingly horrible Raul Meireles. Man that guy sucked on the night.

But I'll take the damn 3 points...

the pundits on jsc, are also pointing out that porto's problem is how dependent on cr7, which i agree with. also there are ego problems with in the squad with a manager who bends over to these ego's.

Is there not a better Portuguese RB than Bosingwa?

It's kind of the other way around, really. It's less about a manager dealing with player ego problems than the ego problems of the coach: which is why he locked out Carvalho and Bosingwa from the squad.

And if Portugal were so dependent on CR7, they should have collapsed in the Euro 2008 qualifiers when he went down to injury and they were on the brink of elimination. Instead, that's when they had a resurgence and qualified.

There's also nothing wrong with having the other team key on a player with double teams, etc. But then CR7s role has to be dishing the ball out to the open players.

Nope. And btw, the reason Portugal failed to make it past Spain in WC 2010 was largely due to their RB (Ricardo Costa).

Ultimately decided to go 2-1 for the Germans.

I think they will play a disciplined game and hit the dutch's poor defense on the counter.

I hope Gomez finds his scoring boots or Klose comes in with enough time.
