semioli for chievo

buffon

the milan players

zambo for barca

the list goes on
You've got a point...

But: Semioli played his first match for Italy and isn't about the best midfielder in the world.

Buffon is a goalkeeper so we're not gonna talk about fitness, are we?

The Milan-players were Italy's best players tonight, I think.

Zambrotta was benched in the Super-Cup because not fit whats or ever and played in Barca's first game in the Liga and was terrible...

The list goes on with Canna and Cassano who have both played one official match with Real. Cassano is actually in a good shape, he was just crap today...

Canna said himself before the Real-match that if it was for him the Liga could have started a little later because he was still far away from 100%.

You're right that this shouldn't serve as such a big excuse but I refuse to be too pessimstic, I just think that we'll see a different team in october (that's what I hope, at least). Whether we'll qualify? Who knows but there are still many games left so it's not over yet (and losing in France is something that can happen, actually, the problem is the draw against Lithuania)...

Totti is a master, and a king in every single word. He's the most needed in the Azzurri, alongside his mate Del Piero.

Just like the prev Euro Qualification, Del Piero scored 80% of the goals, and Totto was just decisive.

Bring them back.

not for the azzurri anymore, totti has nothing left to give to italy, he has given nothing in the passed 3 tournaments, i feel maresca can, so thats why i strongly feel that maresca shud replace mr spit

Okay, I didn't watch the Croatia game because I hardly considered that as an Azzurri game...
He didn't play against Lithuania though...

he was italy in euro 2000, so u cant say he did nothing
maresca can do big in these tournaments, but dunt ever compare him to totti, that is way out of limits

but its not like croatia arnt worthy opponents, and semioli dissapointed in both games so far
No, not because of Croatia, they are a good team. Because Italy was playing without all their regular starters...
Anyway, Semioli didn't play the WC so the fitness-issue is no excuse for him... But there are some important players that were missing in those two matches (maybe Donadoni should have still called them up) ans some important players didn't play at their usual level, you know. It's not the only thing that went wrong, that's for sure and I'm not happy about Donadoni at all but it was a factor, IMHO...

On the postitive side, Italia is not going to defend they manner in which they did today. I say it was by far the worst Italian defensive display I have ever witnessed (At least Brazil played some breath-taking stuff in a 3-3 draw in 1997).

Now on a bad note, Italia looked really out of shape - not just players themselves but the whole structure of team. With very little margin of error from now on, Donadoni has to find his mix and stick it with until the qualification is safe.
I bet you now, how he will be regretting he wasted an golden opportunity to look at some of the players by playing second-rate no hopers against Croatia. That is for me the biggest mistake Donadoni made. It is clear from the last 2 matches he doesnt know his team yet, and certainly hasnt decided team tactics.

I do like the idea of giving Cassano a chance, because he is easily the most talented Italian youngster out there. But contrary to many popular opinion, the more I see him, he is not a trequarsista or playmaker by any means. Cassano's passing range is limited, and not very acurate to some of the standards he is up against, and most importantly he doesnt read the flow of the game like Valeron or Totti. So I say recall Totti if you can and play Cassano as a second striker.

you're right i shudnt compare maresca to totti, cuz right now i feel maresca wud give a hell of alot more than totti wud for the azzurri. im sick of past managers, perhaps not so much lippi, on being reliant on totti, ffs he aint gona be around forever (thank god) we need to look ahead, we need a manager with balls and pick players on form, not on names and past, like mclaren is for england, which i hate to say this, but are fast becomming a team capable of actually winning sumthing
