And it was definitely a penalty.
Dodgy. I think it was a bad call by the ref. In a 50/50 situation in the first 3 minutes in a competition this big, it was a way for a ref to press his imprint on the outcome of a match way too much.

Austria are giving a good account of themselves. They've played most of the football in this half.

225 minutes into the tournament and we haven't seen two teams score in the same game yet.

The football against the anti-football was the title of the first half.

Croatia took the opportunity of an early penalty just to shut down Austria for the rest of the half and try to create counter attacks. The second foul Austria's #4 did deserved the card more than the first but I guess the referee didn't want to ruin the game more than he already did by awarding a penalty so early. Croatia's strength lies in their midfield and they are not using it, they are just defending while Austria are playing their game but it is really tough to penetrate a Greece-like defence.

Bad first half by my team.
Modric and Kranjcar were very quiet in this half. Actually, Kranjcar was invisible.
Pranjic is a hole in the defense and Corluka isn't much better either.
The fact that Olic was our best player says a lot.

I believe the penalty was a good call, Greg. It shouldn't mean anything at all if the foul was in the opening 3 minutes. Olic got to the ball first and the defender fouled him. That same defender was lucky for not getting the second yellow after another foul on Olic.

It wasn't Pogatetz that fouled Olic for the penalty, he got a yellow card for complaining.

And yes Alen his second foul was much worse cause he stopped a counter and Olic had passed him. The ref was going to take out the yellow, noticed who the player was and buttoned his pocket again

I've been disappointed by Croatia tbh. I expected them to come out and play some attractive stuff but since scoring the goal they haven't been interested in attacking. Their technical players haven't got into the game at all.

I expect a better half from Croatia. Austria looked nervous early on, but played better in the last 15 minutes.

As a neutral in this match, I hope to see Austria score a goal early on just to spice things up

    apparently it's 338mb.

austria's not doing as bad as I expected they would
They are a very bad team, though. It's obvious that they don't posses enough quality to play at such a prestigious tournament. However, they give more than 100% and they can sometimes trouble the favorites. But it won't be enough, imo, and they'll keep losing.
Personally i expect Croatia to score a goal or two in the second half. The Austrians had their 5 minutes and they couldn't score. Like always in the friendlies (in last 2-3 years) they'll fall in the second half and concede few more.
