do you think you can beat Groningen? i think the dutch clubs are nothing special lately and you definetly have a great chance to reach the playoffs if you beat them.
I think we've a decent chance.

We beat Twente in a pre-season game last summer and they are a fair bit better than Groningen.

We have a big adavantage over many teams in that we've had a really stable summer. We've kept everyone we wanted to from last season and have added a couple of new players.

A lot of teams (aside from ones who play in league with summer football) won't be anything like as ready to play at this time of year as we are.

but how are teams seeded for the playoff round? in the CL its champions on one side of the draw and non champion on the other. since here arent any champions, would that mean cup winners and non cup winners or something similar... :D
It's just based on each team's European co-effecient, I believe.

Don't think there's any other factor taken into account.

 i hope you make it. Aberdeen is a great club with tradition and they deserve to play in the group stages of an european competition.

Should mention, that Daugava Riga lot are currently the subject of the UEFA match-fixing probe.

There was word before the game that it was going to be monitored and apparently there was an abnormally large amount of cash placed on the game.

We were 1-0 up at half time and at that point a lot of cash was staked on us to win by over 3.5 goals - enough that the odds on that happening went way down.

Thanks Red for keeping everyone up to date with the scores.

Best of luck to Aberdeen and would like to see them make it to the group stages.
I'm also curious at who we(Gladbach) could potentially play during those playoffs. Really hope we qualify for the group stages, again lead in attendance(like we did two years ago) and maybe even go further then the last time around, when we were eliminated in the round of the last 32 agains Lazio.

BTW: We had 10,000 supporters at that Thursday night game in Rome.

Have any top sides made an effort to get Favre from Gladbach in the last couple of years?

Seems to me to be a very god coach and yet I he rarely seems to even be linked with jobs, nevermind anything more serious.

His way of playing is very close to how I'd look to set a team up if I were a coach.

Well, before Guardiola went to Bayern there was always talk about them wanting Favre and Schalke was also mentioned, given that they're always shakey at the manager position.
This past spring there was also a random rumor about Manchester United and Olympique Lyon(think so) being interested.

Though, it seems like Favre values the way the club is treating him(re-signed him this spring during a time were we went winless for seven straight games) and really likes to keep on building that squad.

BTW: We already sold 36,000 tickets for the EL Playoff match(capacity of 46,000 for international games at Borussia Park) even though we don't know who the opponent will be.

Pretty low-key game.

Groningen played for the 0-0 draw and we weren't prepared to risk anything to chase a goal, so it looked like finishing 0-0 from pretty early on.

Only two real gripes:

Our set-pieces were rubbish and we were almost playing a man short though the second half due to McInnes not subbing an unfit player. That cost us any chance of exploiting the possibility of being fitter and sharper having played a couple of games where that was Groningen's first game.

Still, we're a better team when able to play on the break, so still feel there is a sporting chance of getting though.

We'll play Real Sociedad if we get by Groningen:

Well Groningen decided they were '80% though' afer the 0-0 draw at Pittodrie...

...so they can fuck right off.

Langfield

Logan-Anderson-Reynolds-Considine

Flood-Jack

McGinn--Pawlett--Hayes

Rooney

There were chances early - header from corner versus Rooney at back post, Rooney missing after short back pass and them getting a counter-attack.

Game hadn't settled and Aberdeen were taking unnecessary risks in possession.

Calmed after that into Groningen having possesion in safe areas and us holding them at arm's length. Aberdeen were happy to have the ball for significant periods because Groningen weren't pressing and were allowing us to have the ball in the hope of a counter-attack. Aberdeen played pretty responsibly and denied them that (and scored and couple of goals conveniently enough). Aberdeen handled it well given that Groningen pressed pretty well as soon as the ball was played into midfield.

Second half saw Aberdeen retreat and Groningen put on another big guy to run from midfield. Were some issues as Aberdeen kept playing zonally and that led to awkward situations for the centre-halves being out-numbered. They were just shelling long balls forward for the midfield runner to get between Anderson and Logan. Aberdeen then edged towards a back five until they fully committed to it when Robson came on for Pawlett (66 mins) and Considine went between Anderson and Reynolds to head everything (everything) away.

Comfortable after that and really should have scrored another goal on the break. There was some really excellent playing out from deep to engineer counter-attacks.
