I think it's a good draw, we got a team that isn't really strong, don't think they shouldn't be much better than Fiorentina actually.

Sevilla, Porto, Valencia, Benfica... all of them would have been tougher, specially Benfica, which I think, is the second strongest team in the competition after us.

I just hope we take it seriously, we need to give a message to the rest of the world and we also need UEFA coefficient points.
The Super cup game against a top European team is why i want to win the EL so bad. We will be watched by millions as it will be the only game on tv at that time and day and it will be a big European heavyweight team that we play.

I like your analogy, and I could say we had a few of those in the past. But as far as being malplaced; I'm not sure that's the case. I wouldn't say he's overrated either, but he hasn't really lived up to his full potential this season. Some games he could be a real beast, and sometimes invisible. But this season he's basically caused more issues in the defense than anything else. I think more and more Lyon supporters are getting fed up with his simple mistakes.
Thanks

I asked about Gonalons because we are looking for good addition to our midfield too, and I bet our manangement will watch closely how Gonalons is getting along with Marchisio, Vidal and Pirlo.

That's another big upside to winning the EL as well.

More recognition and another pay day from top dollar gate receipts.

I think Fiorentina are stronger than Lyon, if we can snatch a 1-0 or 2-0 victory in France, we'll advance.

AZ, Basel and Sevilla upsets would be amazing. :D The Portuguese clubs are our biggest threat IMO.

Grosso on Juventus-Lyon
By Football Italia staff

Fabio Grosso is the Juventus youth team Coach and advised his club on how to face Lyon in the Europa League.

The 2006 World Cup winner had a two-year spell at the French side and returned to Serie A for the Bianconeri in 2009.

“They were two fantastic years. I had a great time at the club and hold fond memories of the experience,” Grosso told Juventus.com.

“I must admit I got excited when I saw the draw, two teams that are important to me will be facing each other. I’m part of Juventus and will always have Lyon in my heart. I’ve got many friends there and enjoyed a fantastic experience.”

The former left-back, who recently became the Primavera youth team Coach in the Juve academy, won the League and domestic cup double in his first year at Lyon.

“I was lucky enough to play with world class talents like Juninho Pernambucano, Benzema, Keita and Toulalan.” :seven:

“There are a couple of players who were youngsters when I was there and have subsequently managed to break into the first team. The club works very well, they’re serious and passionate about what they do.”

The first leg of the Europa League quarter-final is at the Stade de Gerland on April 3 with the decider in Turin on April 10.

“It’s a nice stadium and a pleasure to play there. The support is passionate, but always sporting and fair. It will be an enjoyable celebration of sport,” added Grosso.

“They will be two difficult games, but Juventus are aware of their strengths and possess the quality to give anyone a tough time. I’m convinced we’ll see two great matches.”

Decent draw, glad to avoid Benfica but still a big team.

They have some good players; Grenier, Lacazette, Gonalons, Gomis and Gourcuff in particular could be dangerous.

Gourcuff :scared:

Fuck downturns, otherwise I would have booked a trip to our offices in Lyon and watched the first game, why is the economy so fucking bad? Why?

We must win this competition.
We must get those coefficient points.
We must get pot1 next year.
Is that even possible?

Edit: No it's not. Not even close. But we can get close to or possibly even more than 30 points this year, which would really put us on track to reach that goal eventually. Until 11/12 drops oout of the calculation however, it's not gonna happen.

It looks like we will be 100% in the second seeded teams in the CL for next season (mostly because many of the teams who are standing higher than us won't participate). No matter what we do from now on in EL. Winning EL will be great not only because we haven't won a legit tournament since like... 1996 but also we will be the club who has won it the most - 4 times. :weee:

Another reason we should go all the way.

Why are Italian clubs behind in European competitions?

"They defend too much, in Italy some clubs *cough*cough* win 1-0 and in Europe they have trouble." - Rafa Benitez
