How come today everyone is cheering for italian teams and there is no  as usual!!
I don't know about other but I want Palermo and Napoli to stay in Europe because they are our main rivals in Serie A, more games for them the better for us in the league.

If we take a look at the current coefficients, at the beginning of next season the standings would look like this:

England 60.588
Germany 53.770
Spain 53.329
Italy 44.624
France 39.678
Russia 34.249
...

In short: Italy is closer to being overtaken (by France) than it is to reclaiming a top 3 spot.

In all honesty, Italy losing it's 3rd CL spot would do more good than harm for it's development.I really hope it happens, teams will take the game mores seriously.

If i had my way, i'd revert to the old system & only give CL spots to the top 2 teams of each domestic league.

Meh.

As a fan of an Italian team I want it to be as easy as possible for us to qualify & do well.
Better an easy win or qualification, than not making it or going out "with your head held high".

As for taking them more seriously, I'm not sure. Regardless, if less teams qualify, less games are played, less points are gained. And so on & so forth.
It's going to be a tough couple of years for Italy. And as a result, for Juve...

Thing is, we support Juventus, a team that traditionally sets high targets. We shouldn't be concerned with claiming any other spot than 1st. If the CL spots were reduced to two only for Italy, don't you think our management would pull out all the stops to rectify gaps in the team?

I really don't care about the rest of Italy, provided the team gets it's act together & win secure the scudetto or 2nd spot, then im fine with the rest struggling.

In short: No.

Not any more than teams like Milan, Inter & probably even Roma would.

As for aiming for 1st spot, I agree. But it doesn't hurt to have some sort of back up.
There is a real chance we will not be playing CL next season. Which would again mean no extra income, which would in turn make it even harder to make it the next year, especially since there will only be 2 direct spots left...

I'm not going to argue that the less champions league spots we have; the better. Because I don't think that's true. The equation is simple; more money means more success. Finishing third to Inter and Milan even though our management did everything they could is very realistic. Therefore, it's very possible that we lose money which in turn means we will have less success.

Regardless, I'm against the idea that Juve out of all teams should be concerned about the 4th spot FFS. I remember the days when finishing second was nothing short of an irreconcilable tragedy. That was back when we were winning back to back Scudetto's like they were nothing.

This what we are lacking now. We don't seem to have that belief anymore. Our standards our lower. We draw to mid table teams away from home and we are satisfied. Since Serie B, the team's mentality completely shifted.

I don't think we'll ever go back to the championship team we once were unless Scudetto is the only goal we have and nothing else. As long as we're content with finishing 3rd and 4th. We'll never win anything.

And it's not a question of being realistic. This isn't deciding what actions to take to reduce unemployment, or how we should prevent teenage pregnancies. There is nothing realistic about football. Anything can happen, it's 11 against 11 out there. The team that comes out on top is the team with more belief.

Sorry for the long rant, it's just that all this concern about UEFA coefficients are beginning to get to me. And what's good for Serie A is not necessarily good for Juve. It's the other way around.

As well as guaranteeing continued emphasis on Champions League qualification, it suddenly places the Europa League as a secondary route to guarantee a competitive level of spending can be assured for Europe’s mid-table teams. However, whilst it should boost interest, the amount on offer barely raises an eyebrow – last season’s winners Atletico Madrid collected just €6.5m.

With a new Serie A television package set to come into effect also for 2011-12 – guaranteeing those mid-table teams likely to be involved in the Europa League an increased income off the back of a fairer rights deal, with added income based on League position – the Europa League may be even less of a priority for Italy’s Coaches.
Interesting article overall.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about this whole coefficient thing? And that if we didn't finish in the top 3, we don't deserve to play in the Champions League anyway?
Maybe you should care that Juve's individual coefficient will be dreadful and, if they get into the CL, will have the potential to get an absolutely horrible draw in their group because so many teams will be seeded better than them.

honestly, I really dont care about all this. I believe in "what you give is what you get"

if we screw up and fail to get in the top 3 spots it would be us to blame not the coeffshit thing.

I'm realizing this now,and i agree with you in this part.Losing one CL spot will lead the italians to adopt new schemes to improve the football system in Italia.

You can be a 4th seed and be drawn into an easier group than a 1st seeded team. Look at Real Madrid's group and look at Arsenal's group's teams barring Arsenal. Which group do you think is easier? Right, obviously chances are stacked against us but I believe that if we're good enough, it shouldn't matter which group we're playing in.
