Nobody is picking anybody out for undeserved praise. Iniesta is very good as well, obviously better one on one with players than Xavi, but the latter is simply better than most in terms of vision, passing ability, creativity and how he can execute his passes.
Of course Messi is the better player. He's the best player in the world. Puyol could be the best tackler in the world. But Xavi is one of the top midfielders in the world, proven by the way he played this year in La Liga, the CL, and in the Euros.

1- Perfect ball control at his feet
2- Can kill the rhythm of the game any minute any second.
3- Perfect ball passer. Perfect crosser.
4- Immense vision on the pitch.
5- Knows when to attack, when to slow down the game.
6- Can defend and attack almost at the same times.
7- Stamina.

That is a tad much. De Rossi is great but he tends to choke in big games and does not have the same technical level as Xavi. Xavi and Essien have led their teams to trophies.

It doesn't prove anything. People on here should really look up the definition of "to prove". De Rossi's a pretty good example by the way. Xavi is better than most, but he really does not deserve all the praise he's getting. He's one of the more average players in a Barcelona side filled with talent. He's handy because he distributes the ball well, but he's not the player that wins them games.
Spain wasn't a brilliant team when they won the European Cup last year. Xavi was MVP of that tournament.
Plus, what if his team is brilliant? That's part of the game man. He has his duty and job on the field and he's doing it whether others are making it easier for him or not that we don't and can't tell/predict. Specially that he hasn't played for any other team.

Iniesta is a more complete player. He might even go on to be a better player than Xavi, as imo he has more in his locker. But for the time being Xavi is the better player, and for you to call him average, even in contrast to this talented Barca side, is way too far fetched Seven.

He does pass the ball sideways more than he should though, but thats only because Barca's gameplan is to always play possession football, so Xavi ends up only taking calculated risks.
