Personally I thought Viera was more impressive at that tournament than Zidane and he was the leader there and guess what he didn't have the armband.

France had players like Viera, Gallas, Thuram, Sagnol, Makalele, Henry etc.

Zidane didn't have to do as much motivating as you'd like to think.
its not about how impressive one is on the field in terms of their playing qualities, but as a respected and inspirational figure like zidane the squad looked up to him after they basically abandoned Domenech, see how France has deteriorated since without him?
vieira is not an inspiring figure, neither is gallas as he has proven for arsenal.

Sagnol played?

I didn't know that, did he play from his hospital bed?

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Vieira was good enough to captain Arsenal for so long and to so many titles, so don't just say he wasn't inspirational (whatever context you're using because I'm lost).

And Gallas 'motivating' a bunch of kids at at Arsenal is completely different with Zidane 'motivating' Thuram, Makelele, Viera, Henry, Sagnol.

Gallas is no captain. He's a crybaby. Brum game for reference.
