Even though the English big teams are still (much) better than the Italians, i can definitely see an improvement in the Italian camp and the difference is not as big as last year.
Remember last year how the Italians couldn't even score a goal? How Arsenal destroyed Milan? How Liverpool easily eliminated Inter? How Manchester toyed with Roma?
This year at least no Italian team was clearly outplayed (i don't think that they were outplayed at all).
Serie A is stronger than last year, the Italian teams are better than last year. Logically things should be even better next year.
Nevermind, I deleted that post. As so often I hadn't read it carefully and I realized my conclusion wasn't correct.
Anyway, the general point still stands. Yanks are hypersensitive about racism, often accusing people around here who are not making any racist overtones at all.
I know what you mean, but most Irish people strongly object to being labeled "British". Steve Finnan's moved to Espanyol, where he's been crippled by injuries. I think he's physically past it.
Inevitably, the wealthiest league will attract more high quality foreigners, though Arsenal have been faux-French for a decade. Liverpools failing academy has hurt them badly since Gerrard and Carragher - too many mediocre imports have sapped their transfer budget while decent prospects haven't been given playing time at senior level. It's kind of sad. It's like seeing all those great Arsenal prospects doing pretty well for mid league teams like Blackburn.
Man United still lead the way in that sense, with Evans (who's Northen Irish) breaking through this year and some others like Gibson (who's Irish) getting a lot of time in a league cup winning team.
So what should we do? Let possible racist things slide? Maybe we should let that Someone guy post the number 88 and HH everywhere, you know, because we're so sensitive to stuff like that...

If you were half smart you'd know that isn't the reason. Martin, Alen and a few other share that same belief. You don't hear anybody calling them bigots.

I think Alen is an example, he dislikes Milan a lot that he probably thinks financial/figures is everything that should come into mind/our concern when it comes to CL Italian teams.
