not the same type of players with gerrard out you need someone to distribute the ball up top, the likes of mascherano and alonso can cover gerrard's defensive void but i dont see anyone else providing his offensive one.
in our case it's the opposite in my opinion, if the group looks good enough for us to make it through then we d probably feel more comfortable investing as our risk has diminished
I don't know if you guys noticed, but the Russian teams hardly ever pass the group stages in CL.
The reason is simple. The Russian championship ends in September and while the others are in full force the Russians don't play competetive matches.
We'll play the first match against Zenit in early September while the return match will be in late November/early December.
We'll catch the Russian snow
Because Rafa is insistent on upgrading the left side. And Arshavin's 30 million euro price tag probably has something to do with it. Then again we are the team that threw down 21 mil for Robbie Keane. At this point I'm like get Downing or Milner for 10. That way you don't have adjustment issues.

I think this is the third toughest group, after D and G. While F would be easier for us than it is for fiorentina, that is a very competitive group too.
I'd also be on the phone constantly from now till Aug 31 vigrorously pursuing a top defender... if Juve fall out of the group Stage, that's two less games minimum and less TV money.
