maybe, but luck doesn't last forever.
Its not just luck liverpool will qualify they can't afford to lose and i think they won't.

As for atletico i think they will fail to qualify for CL group stage. Javier Aguirre have a problem is orginizing he's team defences. Last season many of atletico's games ended by "3-2" "5-4" results. I think that schalke will score a goal which will make it difficult for atletico to come back with 3 goals  ....

No I don't think its a rule. I am fairly positive that in the past 2 teams from same country were found in the same group. The question is, is there a rule on having more than 2 teams from same country in the same
Ahmed is correct on this, no two teams of the same country are allowed in one group.

Not that it counts for much but the teams in pot A and B are probably not that happy that we would be in pot 3 coz whatever group we are going to go in, seems like it'll become close to a group of death. We might not be of the calibre of a few years back but we certainly aint no pushover imo

I think you saw Liverpool play in a group with Chelsea when Liverpool finished 5th in the league, but they still entered the CL because they won it the year before. They were placed in the first qualifying round and the rule of no 2 teams from the same country did not apply for them.

i just think it would be good to avoid an english side... as we had problems with them over the last years...so if we r seeded in pot 3 i'm just hoping not to get an english side... i think we could beat barca or real if we stay injury free and in good shape... but still i'm not thinking we r going too far in the cl... maybe we r even out after the groupe stage
it's just the matter of our defense... even with chillini they r far from solid

:lol2: at some posts here.

Bes, and you make fun of me for repeating myself. No matter how many times i repeat the rules people still won't know them.

1. Teams from the same country CAN NOT find themselves in the same group and they CAN NOT play eachother before the 1/4 finals. (Liverpool in 2005/06 was an exception)

2. Juve are FOR NOW in pot 3 but if one of Arsenal, Schalke and Liverpool is eliminated tonight then we'll be in pot 2.

3. Lyon aren't in pot 1 because they are champs of France. UEFA doesn't give a shit how well did they do in France. UEFA cares about the points teams gained in European competitions in the LAST 5 YEARS. Lyon, obviously were among the best teams in the last 5 years and gained enough points to be placed in pot 1.

You get uefa points this way (no matter if it's Uefa Cup or CL)

In qualifications :
1 points for a win
0.5 points for a draw

In group stages till the end :
3 points for qualifying in the group stages ( only CL groups bring 3 pts)
2 points for a win
1 point for a draw
1 point for eliminating a team in the knock-outs

Also, teams get points ( but not much) depending on the coefficient of the country they come from.

We didn't play in Europe for 2 straight years and we didn't win any points (apart from the country coefficient). That's the only reason why we're placed so low. While teams like Lyon, Real etc played in Europe constantly for 5 years, we played in Europe in only 3 of the last 5 years. That's why we lack points and we're not in pot 1.

So we are 13th with points gained from three years only.
No, we're 23rd.
But since some teams placed above us (Milan, Valencia etc) don't participate in CL, we're 17th among the teams playing in CL and CL qualifications. If one of the teams in front of us won't pass the qualies then we jump to 16th and since there are 8 teams in a pot, we'll be last in the second pot.
Still better than first in the third pot :)

We're a big game team anyway. We were great against Inter, Roma and Milan but lost against the slightly weaker teams, like Udinese and Fiorentina. Pot 1 is a piece of cake, pot 2 is to be feared.

Arsenal and Liverpool will probably win their tie and go through next round. The only one we can hope for is Atletico Madrid.
I'll watch the game tonight. Pot 2 would be so much more relaxing than pot 3
