Well I put him in the same league and there are many others who would. You don't do what Lampard has done in the last 6 years and just say he's well rounded or effective. He has worked very hard and developed into the ideal central midfielder.

I've realised a lot of people dislike Lampard for one reason or another.
well, there are many others that would, and there are a lot of stupid people in the world. I admired lampard a lot last year for the way he conducted himself with the death of his grandmother, etc, and while he's very good and quite consistent, i wouldn't quite put him in the top bracket.

I'm not fond of Scholes or Gerrard either, so that isn't a factor.

Woah now thats stretching it, either you use the term "world class" too loosely or you're overrating the ginger head. Either way, you're very wrong.

Zidane is world class, Messi is world class Ronaldinho in his prime was world class. Scholes is a very good midfielder, one of the finest in Europe the past few years. But world class? You're avin a laugh.
Scholes in his prime was world class.

“Paul Scholes would have been one of my first choices for putting together a great team - that goes to show how highly I have always rated him. He would have been one of the first players I’d have bought, given the chance” Marcello Lippi

Zinedine Zidane : "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. He is undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation."

I guess these guys don't know what they're talking about huh.

music to a liverpool fan's ears :D

I would say Scholes was better at controlling a game, but no doubt Gerrard is one of the best match winners around. With Scholes the whole team plays better, but Gerrard can single-handedly beat a team
One of the worst cliches "Gerrard single handedly wins games".

He is the definition of a headless chicken.

show me any other player that has single-handedly dragged his team back in to a game the way gerrard has. I don't think he's perfect, but he is a matchwinner. you know why clichés become clichés?!

as for lampard, well, when scholes and gerrard start being able to factor in and use deflections in the same devastating fashion, I guess it's safe to say they aren't in the same class ;)

Point is, that as long as we dont see a dramatic change to the EPLs financial situation/politic. The EPL will keep dominating the European football by default, for the coming years...

The overall high level of competition, esp at the middle and lower level teams of the EPL, has no match, in the world... It is now indeed a premium league...
In Italy, for ex there is no competition, only Inter can keep pace with the EPL's available resources, but there is no no one to push them beyond their limits and those losers cannot do it by themselves... There is no one to push them forward, to improve, to make them more competitive. Therefore some of their weakness will not be exposed, there wont be any need to fix them, but the competitive EPL teams, will find and exploit them!!

Clueless.

And Lampard recently scored 160 on an IQ test so I'm pretty sure those deflections are well calculated. Worked out well for Essien the other night didn't it?

Probably talking about the freak Champions League final and the FA Cup final against a very poor West Ham team.

He really doesn't do it that often against the top 3 teams in the Premier League. Consistenyl bad against Utd, usually missing against Chelsea and setting up goals for Arsenal.

Overrated.

10% is a lot. so what if Lampard scored 160 on IQ test? are you saying the deflections are intentional? If so, why are you arguing that there aren't that many to begin with? If he's such a genius with his deflections, surely you'd be arguing that the 10% is incredible?!

bad against united because we often get outplayed by their superior team. every player makes mistakes, I'm not saying gerrard is perfect, far from it. but frank lampard wouldn't have won the FA cup (and btw, West Ham played VERY well in that final) or the CL final for chelsea. your captain slipped when presented with the opportunity to win it for his team!!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

10% sounds a lot more than just 6 measly goals doesn't it? And besides that article was written at the height of the "deflection scandle" in 2006 and he has scored a lot more goals since then so I'm sure it doesn't stand at 10% any longer.

like i said before, alot of the epl's dominance in the cl is down to the fact the last 5 years the same 4 have qualified for the cl in comparison to spain and in particular Italy's entrances. I mean if the epl is as strong as they claim i see no dominance from them in the uefa cup.

so why refer me to the article?!

as for me being a liverpool fan, so what? does that mean I'm going to automatically argue that lampard is crap? or resort to intelligent arguments like calling another person "clueless" when I disagree?

and neither my earlier post nor my signature clued you on to me being a liverpool fan?!

You implied that he was just about defelections and I showed you evidence that he hasn't scored that many.

He's scored more goals than your idol Gerrard.

As for you being a Liverpool fan it's obvious you' will say Lampard is crap and Gerrard is the best ever.

Seriously if I had known you were a Liverpool fan I wouldn;t have replied so much because you're obviously bias.

I'm neutral.

Gerrard is a better footballer than Lampard.

Whether he is more effective is debatable.
Nope. Gerrard is just the better athlete.

Lampard is much smarter, better passer and a lot more disciplined. He can play centre midfield or attacking midfield.

Gerrard can't play central midfield. His own club manager doesn't trust him because he will leave gaps and chase the ball like a headless chicken so they play him on the right or behind a striker so he isn't a liability.

Seriously just watch him play sometimes and not the highlights.
