FC Barcelona (ESP)
Olympique Lyonnais (FRA)
VfB Stuttgart (GER)
Rangers FC (SCO)

It's a real tough group without a doubt...thing is, Rangers are always good against German teams and Lyon may wilt at Ibrox as they did at Celtic Park...you have to factor in the Ibrox atmosphere...

it would be very impressive if they got through this group, but really I think Walt would be more than happy with uefa cup run...this is a re-building year for Rangers
Barca will top the table, I'm sure!

 Oh, dear!

:disagree: oh totti, you're such a douche
Francesco Totti = empty vessels make the most noise!

Good to see Sevilla thrashing AEK. 4-0 at the moment.

It would have been a real shame if they had missed the CL by being distracted by Puertas death.

No sweetie! It was 1995/6 - the Champions League

you retard i said that to the aberdeen fan

at least rangers dont fix matches, we win them fairly
I hope you never come back. What is a blind, arrogant and abusive Rangers fan doing here anyway? Check your European record, son. You NEVER did anything on European stage, you were always food for stronger teams and I should have my own thread for writing down the teams which are more succesful than yours in Europe.

Really, how ignorant can one be? Oh, you have 50 clean and fair deserved titles in a league which consists of 2 competitive teams?

If Juventus were playing in a league with the likes of Ascoli, Reggina, Chievo, Lecce, etc.... we would have 100 domestic titles but they wouldn´t be worth jack shit, just like yours.

Oh, and you got owned in Champions League. 8:1

juve_step you should step_away from this forum

step away from the champions league red star cause rangers are simply the best

When did Milan become "WE" and when did Juve become "YOU" for you ?
I remember there were times when Juve were "WE"

Low And Bierhoff Surpsired By Chelsea's Ballack Snub

Germany coach Joachim Low has expressed surprise at Chelsea's decision to leave Michael Ballack out of their Champions League squad, insisting that the player is expected to be fit soon.

Joachim Low revealed that he expects Germany skipper Michael Ballack to be fit by October.

Had Chelsea not left him out of their Champions League squad, that would have seen him miss just the first two games.

"It's quite a surprise that he won't be playing in the Champions League this year," said Low.

"We have to talk with each other on the telephone first because I don't know any more details yet myself.

"As for the injury, it has healed and he is getting better by the day. He should be ready by October.

Team manager Oliver Bierhoff insisted he was worried when he found out about Ballack's European omission.

"Obviously we're concerned," he said. "Michael is the only one who can tell us what happened.

"It's stunning when a player of his calibre is not included in the Champions League squad.

"We're still hopeful that Michael will be with us in October for the Euro qualifier against Ireland. But the most important thing is that he is 100 percent fit for the Euros next summer."

We have most certainly not heard the last on this one.

I always thought Ballack was overrated..never considered him to be world class..but i have to say for the 160k per week he earns..you'd expect him to at least make the CL squad

Very strange. When it was announced I assumed he was injured long term and so would miss most games, but it just looks like a way to push him out of the club.

The only logical reason fo it is that they want to sell him in January and don't want him cup tied so that another CL tem will want him.

i think thats pretty much the reason they did that..a big slap in the face though after he rejected Madrid.

Ballack is a bit overrated but i think he is world class.Hes no where near the past German greats that hes getting comparisons against.
He is yet to step up a gear in the champions league for either Bayern or Chelsea and thats the biggest point against him i guess

Schuster wanted him in madrid but he was put off by his wage.IMAGINE! Madrid who can pay anyone with any price, are put off by someone's wages. This is how ridiculous that chelsea team are.

.
i dont know about that..he isnt really a creative force in midfield like Pirlo or Xavi..nor is he an engine in midfield like Essien or Gerrard..he isnt a DM that experts in sitting in front of the defence like Makelele or Gilberto..i really dont know what he is..If you told me to list the top 10 midfielders in his position..Ballack will be nowhere near my list

Denco really summed it up in the ballack thread that was opened.

Hes a midfielder that has many characteristics and hes a simply put an upgrade to Lampard and similar to Gerrard during his Bayern/Bayer days. He is a hard worker in the midfield that could defend, create, score goals, and most importantly he has a leadership personality where he could lift a whole team up.

i have to disagree..i dont think Ballack can defend..and i dont think he's a creative player either...i do agree he has a leadership personality..he can score goals..But i disagree Lampard is the better player..and note that i dont rate Lampard that highly

well then thats that i guess.
about his defending, at the world cup and at Bayern when they played the 442.You would see him always tracking back and laying down the tackles.Something that Lampard failed to do as he always needed someone to cover him.

I guess we have different notions about world class players, but i would certainly put michael amongst them.

Cannavaro: We'll Win Our Tenth Champions League

Real Madrid stalwart defender Fabio Cannavaro insists that, this year, Real Madrid can lift the European Cup for the tenth time...

Fabio Cannavaro spoke to RealMadrid.com yesterday about his aims ahead of the new season.

What do you get for the player who has everything, one might ask? Cannavaro has won the Golden Ball, the World Cup, World Player of the Year, and many more over the course of his career.

He has his eye on one particular prize this season, though: the Champions League.

Real Madrid have won the European Cup on a record nine occasions, and Cannavaro is convinced that his side can do so again, giving him his first chance to lift the famous trophy.

When asked about a return to 'Cibeles' - the famous Madrid plaza where Real traditionally go to celebrate winning a trophy - he responded in the affirmative.

"I loved it, and of course I'd like to return," he said.

"I need the Champions League; I've been so lucky to win so much over the course of my career, but that's the one prize that I'm missing.

"And I believe this year that we're going to obtain the tenth [European Cup.]"

He explained that the new members of the squad - Drenthe, Sneijder, Pepe, Metzelder and more - are worthy of lifting European football's greatest prize.

"They've come here with a great deal of desire and quality," he said.

"Last year, we lacked a bit of tranquility, so we were too hasty in our play, and it wasn't always good.

"Now we have players who can help us fix that, and we must continue in that vein."

He added that he felt a new sense of calm and confidence amongst the support, too, which helped matters.

Madrid kick off their Champions League campaign against Werder Bremen on Tuesday, and Cannavaro - displaying more of that calm confidence - is sure that his side can begin with three points.

Cannavaro said, "The Germans are [not at their best], but they always prove a tough opponent.

"Nonetheless, I believe we can do it - we have a great squad, our players are enthusiastic and have quality, and we have our minds set on winning."

On the Liga front, Madrid have opened with two wins from two, including a 5-0 thrashing of Villarreal at the Madrigal a fortnight ago.

Looking ahead to tonight's clash with Almeria, Cannavaro insisted that a repeat may not be on the cards.

"It'll be a different game to the last one," he warned.

"We need to be very careful, as last season we tended to struggle against the smaller clubs. They came to the Bernabeu and attempted to be stronger than us.

"And today [Friday] is the first day that we've all trained together [due to international football], so we need to hit the ground running.

"Whether it's Almeria, Atletico [Madrid] or Barca, Madrid needs to play with the same level of commitment against all teams."

Cannavaro has just turned 34, and gratefully accepted birthday wishes from the interview.

"Thank you," he said. "I'm feeling very well this year. I began the pre-season enthusiastically, having had a rest this summer, and now I'm more motivated than last year: starting after a World Cup's always hard.

"Soon, I won the Golden Ball, FIFA World Player of the Year, and although these things are good, I'm a player who's always had to concentrate on the matches: if there are distractions outside, I don't do well.

"This year, I'm calmer, better, feeling more desire, and we've started with a winning season. So, I'm happy."

And he hopes to keep that winning going.

"The Liga, the Champions League... everything can be won by us," he stated.

Cannavaro joined Madrid from Juventus at the start of last season.
