Improvement like nothing ever
24/5/2007

The improvement in Italian football since the biggest game in Europe this season has been really significant, especially the last few hours. The teams on their training grounds all over Italy were witnessed to be playing football like nothing ever played.

This phenomenon has even reach the lower divisions, school yards and on the streets of Italy. Players and people are playing the best football to be ever played.

Inter's chairman Massimo Moratti to La Gazzetta today, "Milan's win is Italy's win. We benefited directly from it and our players and staff have got some sort of divine energy"

Moratti added, "We are proud to be playing alongside the European champions in the same league"

Giovanni Cobolli Gigli "We have gained promotion last weekend but this is nothing compared to what Milan have done to Italian football last night. We feel humble to be going to a league to play where the kings of Europe play. It is a pleasure for us to be with them."

FIGC has held a meeting with the Italian clubs presidents asking their clubs and fans to stand by Milan when playing in the coming Champions League. They agreed unanimously.

Preparations on supporting Milan to dominate the Champions League will take place in collaboration with all Italian teams and their fans.

Luca Pancalli was caught after the meeting and he announced, " we will try everything to please Milan, they are a great asset to Italian football and their victories in Europe is helping the other teams, the league and the nation as a whole. I won't be exaggerating if I say it also good for the EU's economy. Our project is to provide all the resources available to Milan to keep up their good work. We have already asked Zambrotta to return to Italy and hopefully join Milan and we are negotiating with Juventus to make the transfer of Buffon to Milan much easier. Other players that Milan might need to be able to bring the trophy to their closet again will be worked on to make their arrival to the black and red jersey possible."

He ended his talk by saying Forza Milan, Forza Maldini and he fixed his hair backwards.

And you forgot to add how Milan winning CL has an incredible impact on normal people. I was sick yesterday and i feel great today. It's all because of Maldini lifting the trophy :touched:

I know I know, seeing Berlusconi lift the trophy gave me incredible energy, I woke up early today, had an hour jog and then came back cleaned the appartment and prepared food to the entire week.

Something weird also happened with me, I looked at my laptop wondering how to make the wireless adapter work and without solutions I said to myself "Oh well, at least Milan won the CL". You won't believe me if I tell you, the leds went on and it worked all by itself.

Rab, i accept the situation where Juve fans wanted an Italian team to win CL. I don't understand these juventini and i'll never agree with their reasons for supporting Milan, but i accept this weird situation and i have no hard feelings for them.

But a Juventino being emotional and crying a tear of joy about Maldini lifting the cup is too much for me to understand
Rab is just selling us some "emotional" shit. In reality he is a bastard. Trust me, I know this from the way he treats me.

That's nothing. I just saw a blind man screaming "I can see, i can see", an invalid jumping from his wheel chair and started running.
And i just heard on the news how some man in Somalia took a little boy's lunch of loaves and fishes, blessed it and fed 5000 people with the one lunch.
Oh wait, and it just started raining in Ethiopia after 50 years.

With Milan its the other way round, the matches i watch at home they lose and the ones i watch out or don't watch they win. At home i saw first leg vs Celtic, first leg vs Bayern and first leg vs Utd, i watched the second legs out, and they won in all...i also watched the final out and they won.
Next time try to stay home and watch the game :)

Well at least Italian football has something to smile about after a year of scandal upon scandal. The game itself was full of ironies and i totally expected the outcome. In 2005, Milan had a better team than in 2007, Liverpool had a better team than they did in 2005. Milan were far the better side in 2005 and it could be argued that Liverpool were probably the better side last night
Most of the Milan players yesterday were poor by their standards, Kaka was marked so I did not expect him to shine that much just like Ronaldo was against Milan but not maybe as much. Seedorf was invisible and gave the ball away at times, Pirlo was average and Gatusso was surprisingly poor. Maldini says he wants to continue but I think he should retire as he is geting to the Mattheus stage now of going on for too long, Jankulowski had a shocker but I was not surprised as I dont rate him at all. Ambrosini was very good, pick of the midfield, Oddo was decent even if I don't think he is intelligent, Inzaghi was excellent but Nesta was supreme. As for Liverpool well Gerrard huffed and puffed but nothing of great quality , Pennant was the best forward for them and thats not a good thing. They did play well but did not attack with a lot of players, they played too safe
This year though did show me that if you are to compare the 3 big leagues, at the top end as in the first 4 teams or 5, the Epl and serieA and I am including Juventus in that category would shade La liga as I think Inter, Milan, Juve and Roma for seriea, Arsenal, Liverpool, man united and chelsea are better combined than Barcelona, Real Madrid , Valencia and Sevilla or whoevever is the toast that season. But as a whole from top to bottom then La liga has far more quality than serieA and Epl as Fiorentina, and at a stretch Lazio and Palermo apart there is nothing in serieA. Whilst in Epl Tottenham is the only team outside the top 4 that I rate at all, the rest are just from average to really poor. But La liga has about 12 teams which are decent
You are certainly correct as you are most time. I have to give big props to Ambrosini, as not only he was their primary defensive unit at the back, he kept ball extremely well in contrast to his 3 midfield compatriots who were itching to give away the possession the moment they got it (especially Pirlo IMO).

Regarding the quality of the league: I think the big teams in Italia and England have big advantage over the Spanish outfits, simply because they have far more financial clout to attract players of proven quality than La Liga teams. You rarely see Italian or English big teams venture in the next hottest South-American prodigy. Its one thing to have talent, to actually win some ball games, mentality, experience are just as critical in tight situations. Furthermore, I think the strenght of domestic players in Italia and England are stronger than Spain, which gives two leagues great advantage in building really good teams since you can't have 11 foreigners if you are to make a team cohesive unit.

With regards to the equity: I do like La Liga for having many decent mid-table team who can give big boys a good run for their money on some occasions. I think this is due to wide influx of South Americans which give teams an access to much cheaper resources to compete with more illustrious teams. But it is one thing to be competitive, and entirely different matter in reaching greatness. I think South Americans are great for building decent team in quick time, but if you are seriously thinking about winning trophies than they are not the answer IMO. Possibly exception may be Sevilla, but heck what is the probability of striking gold with virtually every South American prospect you buy like they did? Not all teams have such good scouting network to rely upon.

But I think you are a bit critical on your own nation England. I thought English league has a potential to be extremely competitive one due to excellent revenue sharing scheme that is in place. So it is not out of realm to suggests that teams like Newcastle, Manchester City, West-Ham, Aston Villa could fight for bigger honors with right management in place. In addition, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of teams like Bolton and Everton last year. They may not play entertaining game but they sure give teams a hard workout with their physique and work-rate. Also the very bottom club in England isnt too bad. I mean how can teams like Wigan and West-Ham take points off teams like Arsenal and Manchester at away matches. In Serie A, the bottom team just lie down and die without a fight when Inter, Milan, Roma comes to the town. I think the depth in Serie A will vastly improve in 3 years time, because Napoli, Torino and Genoa have the fanbase to stay competitive in the league for a long time. I liked Viola's aggresive strategy in Calcio Mercato over last couple of years. I won't be surprised if they become the Sevilla of Serie A next year with couple of signings, especially considering that they have Corvino who is by far the best director in the business in Italia. That will probably leave with 4 excellent teams, 2 very good, 4-5 (Udinese, Samp, Palermo, Torino, Napoli) competitive teams in the league, which isn't too bad. The problem will be those last 8-9 teams who are utter crap, 3 or 4 of which shouldn't even be in Serie A, only playing in the league becase Italian courts likes to be involved with having final say in deciding who stays and who gets relegated. Only way to cure the problem IMO is to share resources more equitably like EPL teams do, thus raising the competitiveness in the league.

Props to Milan. I have nothing but respect for players as Maldini, Pirlo and Kaka. Maybe even Gattuso.

But seeing Galliani putting his ugly bald face everywhere and Silvio holding the cup and being lifted by the players was the end of any sense of respect.

I was sort of happy at the end of the game, and disgusted after they lifted the trophy.

good post Denco...

Milan's win is a boost for Italian football, which has taken its lumps this season with all the scandals, violence, and Inter winning something :p
