and about tuesday:
looks like raul still has the touch, nice finish from bommel, both teams have been in poor form but i think it takes a lot more then just hitzfield to get bayern back on track, i saw the game, and i dont understand why bayern bought podolski. Bommel is not a bad player but bayern needs a world class midfielder to replace ballack. oh and how come capello didnt play emerson yesterday? :D

Messi really showed his selfishness when he didn't pass the ball to an open Giuly right in front of goal... would have made it 2-1 for Barcelona. Moreover, Rijkaard had no clue what he was doing with his substitutions. It sort of cost them their chance for the second round, but we shall see.

Although it's good to see that idiot Marquez give the ball away for the winning goal. I love when that little shitsucker is humiliated.

Messi has always been selfish, I don't know why lot of people rate him and compare to big names/stars. Probably because some are fool with the pony show.

Seriously, for me football is more than this pony show, football is running as much as you can, helping midfielders and defenders, making space for yourself etc... What messi did today was waiting for the ball to arrive at his feet. I'd never take these kind of players.

Haven't seen the match yet but this point I can comment on. I disagree. Messi just came back from his injury and have only played two games since his return, both times he's been a fresh breeze in the troubled Barcelona. Giuly doesn't ever seem to be better or worse, though i think messi is, even at this state with little match practice, better then giuly
If Messi had just come back from the injury, why did Rijkaard place him in the starting lineup? Anyways, I wasn't comparing Giuly to Messi on general, I was saying who should start this match depending on what I watched in the last few weeks.

Even though, I do prefer Giuly, who is a hard worker and shares in both attacking as well as in defending despite being a true attacking winger, to Messi, who is selfish and wait for the ball to in his place, in spite of being one of the best young talents in football nowadays. Definitely, if you watched today's match against Liverpool, you'd have perceived that Messi could have made it 2-1 to Barcelona just by a short pass.

oh and i got to say, koeman is starting to impress me, last year with benfica (maybe lucky) but his not doing that bad now with psv either, yeah it was a even game yesterday and probably a good form from gomes got them the win, but i wouldnt say the performance was bad (considering what players arsenal has, heck the bench list was much longer for arsenal than for psv), and last season he beat liverpool in anfield with benfica so psv defenetly have a good chanse to get to the next round. And it was a very nice winning goal.

Regarding Barcelona Vs Liverpool match, there are a few points:

1) Tactically, Rijkaard failed completely to control the midfield centre. Motta is a flop as a defensive midfielder and there was no harmony at all between him and Xavi.
2) Giuly was in a better form than Messi and this was obvious from the previous weeks. Even though, Rijkaard preferred the latter to the former.
3) Victor Valdes made two mistakes; one of them resulted in Liverpool first goal and the second one led to two consecutive chances by both Gerrerd and Kuyt.
4) Ronaldinho was insisting on attacking from the centre and it was completely blocked by Liverpool's defence.
5) The substitutions made by Rijkaard were howlers (Especially: Xavi in and Inesta out). Hence, all the midfield players are attacking players, a thing which was dangerous on Barcelona and it might have led to the third goal.
6) On the contrary, Benitez read the match accurately when he placed three players in the centre.
7) Bellamy played two roles; attacking from the left flank with Riise and assisting Kuyt as a second attacker.
8) Aggar and Carragher were a good pair in Liverpool's defence.
9) Ronaldinho was strictly marked.
10) Deco and Puyol were Barcelona's best players, I think.

u missed one point ahmedios, rijkaard cant adapt to a sudden shock or drop in preformance, he just freaks out and loses control on the game.

i am not surprised that barca is the mostloved club ont he forums, u should thank m_elayyan for that :D

has any one seen eto's reaction after the second goal!! shaking his head and and saying umm........ we r being ripped a new ass hole tongiht, screw u rijkaard. heheheheheheheheh

the way i see it, barca dont stand a chance, i dont see how they will score twice and prevent liverpool from scoring. not to mention liverpool will do a great job in sealing it in the second leg.

I saw Barca - Liverpool, and Liverpool really deserved to win. Most of the match they controlled the play and they totally blocked Barca. Everyone who saw this match, would know that Barca's defence sucks. Marquez and Belletti totally sucked tonight (not that they are good anyway) and it was their fault for the goals concedeed. Ronaldinho and Messi should work harder instead of just dancing in the field if they want good results. Deco was Barca's best player IMO, even if that wasn't enough. Oh, about Valdes:

Loved the way Valencia handled Inter. Fantastic goals by Villa and Silva, two of the best players in the world right now IMO. :pint:

Cheers fellow Juventino. :toast:

Rijkaard not only doesn't adapt to a sudden rock, he also doesn't know how to defend and how to attack from the flanks.

By the way, thanks to m_elayyan and Alexander. :D

CL Report: Liverpool Stun Ragged Barca

Liverpool are the only English team to have beaten Barcelona at Camp Nou in European competition - and they added to that historic 1976 victory with another win in Catalonia tonight.

The Merseysiders came from behind to inflict a 2-1 defeat on the reigning European champions. And, as if a fiction writer was responsible for the script, Liverpool's two scorers were Craig Bellamy and John Arne Riise, the alleged villains of the Portuguese fiasco.

Rafael Benitez had got his tactics spot on, although for the first 20 minutes or so, Barcelona looked ominously in the mood. And in the 13th minute, Zambrotta broke on the left-wing and sent over an inch-perfect cross which Deco, having run untracked from midfield, embarrassed Riise with a powerful low header at the far post.

But if Barca thought that was their entry into the comfort zone, Liverpool had other ideas. Their character was revealed as they kept their composure and their bheads up, and got back into the game.

Yet their equaliser, two minutes before the break, came right out of the blue. Belletti was exposed as Bellamy met a deep free-kick at the back post with another low header. It was straight at Victor Valdes, but the keeper was behind his line and so, momentarily but decisively, was the ball. He scooped it out, but only to Dirk Kuyt, who smashed it back into the net. But the goal was clearly Bellamy's - and of course he celebrated by swinging an imaginary golf club.

It was a perfect time to score, and the second half was a story of growing Liverpool confidence and unravelling Barca influence. Sissoko was immense for Liverpool in midfield, a lion - and Rijkaard's substitutions failed to spark Barca back into life.

The decisive moment came on 74 minutes when Valdes blocked Kuyt's effort, the ball ballooned up and Marquez could only head it to Bellamy, who spotted the unmarked Riise square to him on the other side of the area. The Norwegian lashed it unstoppably into the roof of the net to stun Barca.

Saviola had an immediate chance to equalise but was thwarted by Reina's block, and Messi spooned the loose ball over. Ronaldinho was too often peripheral for Barca, while Liverpool worked prodigiously to close him and his colleagues down whenever danger threatened.

So Liverpool earned another famous victory at Camp Nou - and Barca now have a real problem to solve at Anfield in two weeks' time.

barca handed liverpool the game if u ask me, they didnt have much chances and barca dominated but couldn't convert

it doesn't matter at the end of the day, they will have to work double to gain promotion to the next round

I am psyched up for Roma - Lyon

Massive game with lots of entertainment and goals. Two offensive teams who knows no other way. Could end with like 4-5 goals if we're lucky.
:shifty:

I have just said it on the "I want this player to Juve thread". Sissoko is a beast and a vastly growing world class ball winner.
I don´t know, he is slow, injury prone and he is not very good in passing the ball. However, I must admit he closed down Iniesta and Deco pretty well, although from time to time he had to use dirty fouls, he truly reminds me of Vieira with less technical abilities.

i have been watching football for around 20 years , i did not see stupid goal keeper and defenders as i saw in barca match yesterday , valdez got the ball and instead of keeping it he push it in front of the attacker and say please put it in the goal , by the way once this happened i turned the tv and watched a movie
it is over for barca . lets concentrate on the liga now

That´s true, Valdes was awful, that´s why Juventus must never let Buffon away. Marquez didn´t have the best game too.

Infact, the only good Barca defender yesterday was Zambrotta, he reminded me of his good performances in Juventus.....
