I think that too. Apart from the goal he was very useless on the pitch. But of course his presence next leg will be needed.
Quoted in agreement. Van Bommel was very slow and if you compare his endeavours to that of Hargreaves, Hargreaves was far better. Even though, he will be needed as you said in the second leg.

Don't like players getting punished for celebrating, he used to play for Barca so I bet he was being abused the whole game. Seems unfair that he can't get his own back.

Stupid authorities trying to suck all the passion out of the game.

Giggs scored with a Henry style FK when the goalkeeper was lining up the wall. It doesnt matter now, Man U won and it'll be a fiery match in Old Trafford I guess. There was even some crowd trouble caused by Man U fans, when a fan tried to enter the pitch and then all the others got angry when police intervined.

It would be very interesting to see what UEFA decide to do if anything. Fergusson already came out trying to cover his ass saying that Lille should be punished for protesting and threatining to leave the pitch plus claiming that missles where thrown on the pitch. Lille deserved something from the match from what I saw in the highlights, but its not always fair.

EDIT: This is my source, it might be less of a biased one since the BBC say "it had nothing to do with the British fans" as usual. :rolleyes2:

Riot police and Man United fans clash

LENS, France, Feb 20 (Reuters) - French riot police sprayed tears gas on Manchester United supporters to dampen crowd trouble during the first half of a Champions League match between Lille and the English Premier League side on Tuesday.

The problems started 15 minutes into the game after a United fan climbed a fence at the Stade Felix-Bollaert to get on to the pitch and approached his team's goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar.

Stewards took the supporter back to the stands triggering an angry reaction from other United fans who were distreesed at being pushed against the 10-foot high security fences.

Riot police intervened with truncheons and sprayed tear gas as several supporters tried to climb over the fences.

The game was not stopped and calm returned after a few minutes when two fans, including an elderly woman, were lifted over the barriers to safety.

United secretary Ken Ramsden said the club would meet with officials from European soccer's governing body UEFA and the English FA after the game, which United won 1-0 thanks to a cheeky late freekick by Ryan Giggs, to discuss the incident.

Before the match United expressed concern about the basic facilities at the ground and were surprised Lille were allowed to move the game to the 42,000 capacity stadium in northern France rather than a larger venue like the Stade de France.

How about Man U needing a cheap goal to get passed Lille? I don't see them going anywhere in the next round. Arsenal played like crap and got punished for it, hopefully my boys will take a lesson from their counterparts and not play like shit.

    Don't think thats entirely accurate.

Man Utd fans in Lens crush scare

Manchester United fans were involved in a security scare in Lille
Manchester United fans were involved in a security scare during the Champions League tie against Lille amid scares they were being crushed in the stands.
A problem erupted 15 minutes into the match at Lens' Stade Felix-Bollaert, with some fans being pushed against the 10-foot-high metal security fences.

Fans reacted angrily, prompting riot police to fire tear gas into the stand.

However, after two fans, one an elderly woman, were lifted over the barriers to safety, the unrest was quelled.

United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar suffered double vision as a result of the tear gas fired into the stand.

Television reports suggested the gates at the back of the stand had been opened by police to allow Red Devils supporters with tickets for the home section of the stadium to sit with their own fans.

United had expressed concerns about the basic facilities at the ground before the match.

Uefa spokesman Rob Faulkner said: "Having seen what went on on the security side and in the match itself, it would be standard procedure for the referee to report the incidents and for the Control and Disciplinary Committee to take the appropriate action.

"The whole issue of Lille playing in that stadium will also need to be addressed.

"We cannot say now what action the Disciplinary Committee will take, but if they find against Lille, it could well be severe."

United were surprised Lille were allowed to move the game to the compact 42,000 stadium in northern France rather than a larger, more modern venue like the Stade de France.

Manchester United secretary Ken Ramsden revealed the club would meet with Uefa and Football Association officials after the game to discuss the incident.

A Manchester United club official, at the match, said he had not been made aware of any injuries to fans.

"They won't relish coming here, no matter what they are saying now. Juventus couldn't handle the occasion two years ago and neither could Chelsea". Stevie G
    QUOTE]

Liverpool are a big pile of horse shiiet, and the only reason they might win is if barca are even more of a pile of shiiet. The only one who couldnt handle the occassion was the referees dissallowing DP's goal and then allowing a goal for Liverpool against Chelsea which was never there.

    :disagree:

I'll agree, my team is shit compared to Barca and I'm very surprised as to their position in the Premiership, but I think they're going to hang in there tomorrow and force Barca to come into Anfield with a bit of pressure on their backs.

My Sig is a quote from Steve Gerrard responding to what Barcelona players have said, no offense was intended, if you like I can remove it.

PS. Our coach is better than yours.

I thought I saw van Bommel holding a lighter, which perhaps was thrown at him during the game. It's always nice to see the class of those scumbag Real Madrid supporters and their assclown coach.

Fair enough. I just like the quote because it defines the importance of playing at Anfield.
