FC Internazionale Milano believe they can turn round their 2-0 deficit to city rivals AC Milan as they welcome back Adriano for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
Adriano fit
Adriano has been out since a knee injury against ACF Fiorentina last month, but the 23-year-old Brazilian striker is now fit to play some part as he seeks to add to his total of seven Champions League goals this season, including the hat-trick that ousted holders FC Porto in the Round of 16.
'Indispensable player'
nter coach Roberto Mancini said: "Clearly he isn't one hundred per cent fit. But all he needs is three shots on goal to score three goals. He's an indispensable player for a match like this."
Zanetti cheered
The addition of Adriano's firepower to the lineup was also welcomed by Inter captain Javier Zanetti, with the Nerazzurri having not scored against their neighbours in three meetings this season. "It's important to have him back," said Zanetti. "A player with his characteristics can be decisive on the pitch and create difficulties for any defence."
Deportivo defeat
Mancini is taking hope from the second leg of Milan's quarter-final with RC Deportivo La Coruña a year ago, where the then holders began 4-1 up and ended up losing 5-4 on aggregate. "Scoring an early goal changed the match," remarked Mancini. "If we do well enough not to let in any goals at the start, and get one ourselves, it could spur us on to achieve an extraordinary feat."
'Different situation'
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti insisted, however, that lightning would not strike twice. He said: "The present situation is different from that at La Coruna, since tomorrow evening we won't feel away from home, as San Siro is our stadium."
'Important lessons'
Paolo Maldini, who is expected to revert to his former position of left-back to allow first-leg goalscorer Jaap Stam another start alongside Alessandro Nesta, Alessandro Nesta, even believes that Milan may take strength from the circumstances of their exit last season. "Mistakes teach important lessons," the Milan captain said. "You can commit mistakes in your life, but it is not certain that things repeat themselves."

Talk of Adriano's return to the Inter starting XI did not seem to unsettle Ancelotti, whose side is currently the top defensive outfit in the Champions League after registering seven clean sheets and allowing only three goals in nine matches. Indeed Dida is aiming to equal the competition record of six straight shut-outs for a goalkeeper, set in 1995/96 by both Edwin van der Sar of AFC Ajax and Panathinaikos FC's Józef Wandzik, with the Brazilian forward the biggest threat to that bid.
'Hidden dangers'
"If Adriano plays, we will have to be watchful of him," said Ancelotti. "Otherwise we have to pay attention to the other strikers who can trouble us as well. Every game can have hidden dangers."
Maldini relaxed
A veteran of two decades of intensely fought derbies and a member of Milan's much praised defensive unit, Maldini also sought to downplay the presence of the Brazilian. "I don't know who will feature for Inter," remarked the 36-year-old. "It is their concern, should Adriano be missing, there would be either [Julio] Cruz or [Christian] Vieri or [Obafemi] Martins, we are not interested in this."
Away goals equation
Designated as the 'visitors' for the second leg, Milan are thus able to make their opponents need to score four times by striking just once, having already won these teams' previous Champions League meeting in the 2002/03 semi-finals on away goals.

Chelsea's Jose Mourinho has incurred Uefa's wrath by missing the media conference ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match with Bayern Munich.
Blues fitness coach Rui Faria and striker Mikael Forssell were there but Uefa's Wolfgang Eichler was unhappy.
Uefa's delegate said: "It is not ideal. I will have to report it to Uefa.
"Bayern's manager, captain Oliver Kahn and Owen Hargreaves were there but Chelsea did not even bother telling us who they intended putting up."
And Eichler added: "The situation is very tense between Uefa and Mourinho.
"We cannot force Chelsea into anything as there is no punishment for this - but just look at the difference between the teams."
Mourinho also failed to speak to the media last week ahead of his side's 4-2 victory over Bayern Munich at Stamford Bridge.
His absences may be seen as a reaction to his two-match ban imposed by Uefa after their defeat at Barcelona last month.
The Blues boss cannot sit in the dug-out at Bayern's Olympic Stadium as Chelsea look to defend their first-leg advantage.
But no matter how upset Mourinho may be, Forssell insists it will not affect the team's performance.
