I'm going to miss the Chelsea - Barca clash because of football practise but I should be home in time to catch the Milan - Manure match delayed. Kudos to ESPN for showing two delayed games as well as a live one on both Tuesday and Wednesday :thumb:

That's cool, Fabi :)

We got the ESPN from a local tv (no pay) but the problem is about time difference. We usually watch it at 2.30 am..

Man I cannot wait for tomorrow.

I heard something about Ronaldinho laughing it up about the posibility of no English sides making it through to the Quarterfinal.

I just found some new respect for that man. Do it up nice against Chelsea tomorrow Ronnie Gaucho. :star:

Milan vs Man U preview

Milan put faith in defence
Monday, 7 March 2005
By Ivan Carvalho in Milan

AC Milan will look to their formidable backline to keep them in the ascendancy when they take on fellow former European Champions Manchester United FC in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie.

Defensive encounter
Hernán Crespo's solitary goal at Old Trafford two weeks ago has left Carlo Ancelotti knowing a draw at the San Siro would be enough to advance his side into the quarter-finals, and he expects another defensive encounter on Tuesday night. "I think Manchester United will play the same type of match as in the first leg," the Milan coach said. "But I don’t expect either team to get a lot of scoring opportunities."

'Latter stages'
Ancelotti's defensive mindset can be excused as his squad has been less than stellar going forward in recent weeks. During the team's current seven-match winning streak, Milan have relied on added-time goals to secure victory on three occasions. "We have been creating a lot of opportunities in the latter stages of games," Ancelotti explained. "That shows that even if we are less lucid towards the end, we play with more vehemence while the opposition lose their rhythm.

'Not impossible'
Sir Alex Ferguson seems to agree with Ancelotti, insisting he wants his United side to keep strong at the back for as long as possible and rely on their own knack of scoring decisive late goals to seal their progress. "It is not the easiest task but it is not impossible," said Sir Alex. "That's the key to the game. If we can keep Milan out that gives us a great chance. Even with 20 minutes left and the score at 0-0, I would be happy."

Memories of 1999
United scored twice in the dying moments to win the Champions League Final in 1999, having overturned Ancelotti's Juventus FC in the last four. After a goalless first leg, Sir Alex's side went 2-0 down in Turin but rallied to win the match 3-2. Despite that remarkable turnaround, the United manager insisted: "This is probably the hardest task we have had to face. At this level an away goal counts for a lot and you saw that in the faces of our players after Milan scored [in Manchester]. We hope we can do the same."

'Big boost'
Helping the situation for United this time around will be the presence of Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooij in the starting lineup. Although used as a second-half substitute in the first leg, the Dutchman is now fully match-fit following his Achilles injury. Aware of the challenge ahead, Van Nistelrooij is confident his side can come out on top. He said: "If we can get a good result from this game then it will be a big boost for our confidence.

Van Nistelrooy improving
"We have a massive task ahead of us but I feel I'm improving. I had 20 minutes against Milan two weeks ago but I've had two full games since then and all the training as well. Physically I am at my best and hopefully I can show that."

Inzaghi presence
United's leading scorer may be back in the frame, but Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko is still sidelined after suffering a broken cheekbone during a Serie A match against Cagliari Calcio in February. Should United break the deadlock at the San Siro, expect Filippo Inzaghi, back from injury against Atalanta BC at the weekend, to make another appearance from the substitutes' bench. "Inzaghi has trained very little," warned Ancelotti. "But he showed in Bergamo he can come on and get into the game."

Mourinho missing pivotal pair
Monday, 7 March 2005
By Trevor Haylett in London

Chelsea FC will be unable to call on Arjen Robben when they look to overturn FC Barcelona's advantage from the first leg of the UEFA Champions League first knockout round on Tuesday. The Dutch winger, so influential in the London club's success this season, has not recovered from his foot injury and will play no part.

Difficult hurdle
It is a blow for José Mourinho, who was hoping to throw Robben into a game which has dominated discussion in England and Spain since the first thrilling encounter finished 2-1 in Barcelona's favour. Already without Didier Drogba, whose red card two weeks ago rules him out, the Chelsea manager faces a difficult hurdle in his quest to defend the trophy he won last season with FC Porto and knows his team will have to improve if they are to reach the quarter-finals.

Chelsea inferior
"In the first game Barcelona were better than us, so we need to play better than them this time," said Mourinho when asked what would be the key to a Chelsea triumph. "They (Barcelona) want to get to the quarter-final and we want to do the same."

No criticism
Mourinho refused to respond to reported criticism of his team's style from the Barcelona players and also denied there is any animosity between the two camps. "They are winning 2-1 and there are 90 minutes, or two hours, to go," Mourinho explained. "We feel Didier Drogba should be in the game, he isn't, so it's had an influence in both matches. But we have to accept it and do without him."

'Tough game'
Barcelona, who are without centre-half Rafael Márquez but can call on attacker Ludovic Giuly after a back injury, insist they will not be affected by the intense build-up that has preceded the game between the respective leaders of the Premiership and Primera División. "We are all aware it will be a tough game, an important game, but these are the games professionals want to play in," said Barça coach Frank Rijkaard.

Counter threat
He then outlined the differences between the style of play of the two teams. "We can't afford to forget that Chelsea have some very good attacking players who can hurt you but I think it's true to say that Chelsea go for the result a little more than Barcelona. We play to entertain the season-ticket holders with the result obviously being important in every single case while Chelsea play more on the counter than we do."

'No complaints'
Rijkaard was also anxious to play down any suggestion that he and his opposite number do not get on. "Mourinho is doing a great job and is a very successful coach" he said. "Everyone has the right to say what he wants and to act the way he prefers and if that's his chosen form and he's happy with it, I'm not one to complain about it. The nice thing about life is that people are different and it's the same in football. Not everyone is alike and that's OK, otherwise it would be a boring situation."

Finishing paramount
A clue to the reception Barcelona are expecting from the London club, who will go through with a 1-0 victory, came from defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who said they must prepare to withstand a fierce Chelsea onslaught at the start. "We are aware that Chelsea are strong at home and the first 10-15 minutes will be decisive," he said. "We need to weather the storm. Then, when we create a chance, it's important that we put it away."

Today is the day that you are going to have to admit that Man Utd are a great team, that they have great players...the king of comebacks will do to Milan what we did to Juve in 1999...

Ah, those memories...Two goals from Pippo means nothing
We held ManU 1-1 in Old Trafford and in Turin we lead 2-0 (in the first 10 minutes) and ManU scored 3 goals. Juve 2-3 ManU, Game over!

Even Sir Alex says that Juve 1999 is stronger than Milan 2005. It means that they'll go thru?

Yes, Febrina, It means we will go through...You cant know how great that game was in 1999 for me especially, because of the comeback and everything, the fact that it was Juve and it was in Italy...it was perfect!!

If Chelsea can go over the Barcelona obstacle, they can go further than the quarters....

But I expect al the EPL sides to be out by this stage

If they start winning the Champions League then perhaps. That's a big if though.
