Congratulations to Milan, they did very well. I have even more respect for them now, they did what very few teams do at Old Trafford and that is attack. So congrats to them, but it is far from over. A 2-0 win in the San Siro and we are through, I am still very coinfident...

Oh, and I love being right...what did I say??? I told you Chelsea would lose 2-1...whats even funnier is that on a different website along time ago, called SoccerAge, which later became Goal.com, I said that Barca should buy a unknown player called Maxi Lopez...he then went on to score the first goal tonight... :D

Nesta was right up there with Pirlo for the post match awards, as the #13 showed everyone that he is indeed the best defender in the world. Rooney and Giggs could not do anything out there because of Nesta.
Piss off, Nesta played one of his worst matches of the season. He made several mistakes and got passed by on a couple of accounts in a really dumb manner.

I agree with the rest you said though. Especially the Tim Howard bit, though I do not rate him to be one of the EPL's best keepers.

Rooney didnt have a good game, but he is young, young players are very inconsistent, its always like that, even the best in the world dont always play well, you cant say he is bad because of one bad game.

He is overrated, only because of the fact the British Media think he is a reincarnated footballing god, but he is very, very good and a potential true great.

Oh, and in case you wanted to know I think Mr. Zippo collector did a bad job last night!!!

Rooney didn't have a great game because he was started as a lone striker against some of the most experienced defenders the game has to offer.
It was a no win situation from the start.

Overall, I think we got the result most of us were expecting.

I tend to agree. Fergie got the tactics arseways: Rooney isn't a lone striker even when not playing against a top defense. I can see what he was doing though. To mark that attacking trident, Keane has to stay deep, which leaves Scholes swamped, and concedes the centre of midfield, so he packs it. It failed because Man U were too negative, almost afraid of the ball. Every surging 30 yard run ended when the attacker realised that there was only one other red shirt in sight, and it was surrounded by three Milanese players. It'll be interesting to see how he sets it up for the return leg.

Dont think it'll be the same, Fergie whatever you think about him doesnt matter the same mistake, and Man Utd are always better when coming from behind...

Red And Black Devils Triumph In OT
2/23/2005 10:55:00 PM
A late strike by Premiership reject Hernan Crespo handed AC Milan a historic and extremely important victory over Manchester United in Old Trafford.
It was a deserved win for the Rossoneri, who after suffering throughout a large portion of the first half, took control of the pitch in the second, and created a flurry of chances in the final minutes of the game.

The match’s intensity reached peak levels immediately after kick-off as both teams played the football we all love, attacking style.

Rui Costa was the first to test the hearts of the Old Trafford faithful as his low cross aimed at the far post was slightly too powerful for Argentina striker Crespo to reach it.

Then Seedorf hit the crossbar off a freekick with Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll terribly placed on the Dutchman’s execution.

The first real chance for the Red Devils fell on Paul Scholes’s feet following a precise Fortune cross, however the former England midfielder shot wide with the goal at his mercy and Milan keeper Dida on the ground.

Things slowed down for a bit in the middle of the half, but then got extremely exciting again towards the end of it when Quinton Fortune presented himself all alone in-front of Dida.

The Brazilian keeper was terribly placed leaving the entire net at the far post clear to hit, but luck was not on the South African player’s side as the ball rolled just wide of the empty goal.

The second half started in the same manner the first began, but neither side was able to create anything to write about until the 61st minute, when Sir Alex Ferguson decided to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with Ruud Van Nistelrooy. The Dutchman had been missing from the green carpets for almost three months.

Six minutes after RVN's return to action Seedorf passed to Crespo who was able to shoot from close range, however his national team companion Heinze deflected the effort wide of the net.

Crespo was once again the protagonist fifteen minutes from time after he magnificently connected with a Kakà pass and dribbled past Ferdinand, but his powerful close range drive went just above the bar.

Milan’s goal was in the air and it finally arrived when Carroll failed to hold onto a Seedorf long-range blast. Crespo was there to pick the rebound up, and this time he didn’t miss as he tapped home from short-range.

Galvanized by the lead, Ancelotti’s boys continued to create dangers in-front of the Manchester goal. Kakà twice tried to hit the net from long range, but in both instances the ball sailed just wide of it.

On the stroke of the final whistle Van Nistelrooy tried to grab the so-important equalizer after a nice cross from the right side, but the United hero failed to direct his close range header in between the pipes.

The return leg will be played in two weeks time. Entertainment guaranteed.

Ferguson won't blame Carroll

Sir Alex Ferguson refused to make goalkeeper Roy Carroll the scapegoat for defeat by AC Milan and insisted Manchester United have already proved what a threat they can be in Italy.

United will go to the awe-inspiring San Siro stadium in a fortnight trailing 1-0 after Carroll fumbled Clarence Seedorf's shot and Hernan Crespo fired home the loose ball.

Ferguson said: 'Seedorf should have been closed down. We directed him into the middle of the park and should have closed that area down and forced him out to the side.

'After that no-one closed him down and he has got a free shot.'

Ferguson said United should take encouragement from the match against Juventus in Turin in 1999 which they won 3-2 after being 2-0 down, en route to winning the Champions League.

'It will be a difficult game for us but no more difficult than when we went to Juventus,' said Ferguson.

'I think we deserved more from the game, it was a game of real high quality and AC Milan played an open game because they felt that was their best chance.

'This gives them a great advantage but we have a terrific opportunity still because we can score away from home and we have got the pace to worry them.'

Ferguson also rued the missed opportunities of the first half when both Paul Scholes and Quinton Fortune passed up gilt-edged chances. Scholes fired wide from 12 yards while Fortune stumbled at the vital moment and placed his shot the wrong side of the post.

'We were a bit rushed,' said the United boss. 'We lacked composure to take advantage of the opportunities and it's a pity because if we had gone in front I think we would have been okay.'

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of Juventus that night in 1999 and he admitted the memory made him wary of United's threat in the second leg.

He said: 'I have to say I remember extremely well what happened last time but let's just say it's better not to dwell on that.

'Of course we are really pleased with this result and it's a very important victory but by the same token we are aware this is only the first half and the second half is yet to come.

'We played Manchester United well, we gave them few opportunities and we tried to prevent them from developing attacks.

'But I think Manchester United still have legitimate hope and claims to win the Champions League as do we and the other big clubs left in the competition.'

I dont think so, but we'll have to wait to see...United are better coming from behind, 'Its not over, just ask Bayern Munich'!!
No need to ask Bayern, we (Juve) already know. Remember when you came from 2-0 down to beat us 3-2 in the Delle Alpi?

Brazil really do have three top knotch playmakers in Ronaldinho, Kaka and Juninho. It's a pity all three can't play at the same time.
