...and dont forget Maccabi Haifa.....;)
But I don't think they will be any threat in this group....Bayern and Ajax are the main threat for Juve

I can see Juve and Ajax qualifying (though I Like Bayern)

Valencia Claim Gold In Super Cup

Valencia put their Spanish Super Cup defeat to Zaragoza behind them as they claimed the European version with a 2-1 win over Champions League winners Porto.
Ches coach Claudio Ranieri started with Marco Di Vaio and Bernardo Corradi in attack, while new Porto signings Helder Postiga and Giourkas Seitaridis featured for the Portuguese side.

After Santi Canizares had saved a superb volley from Helder Postiga, Di Vaio should have put Valencia ahead but he headed a Vicente cross horribly wide.

But the Mestalla club were ahead on 31 minutes when Ruben Baraja powerfully headed Curro Torres’ right-wing cross past Vitor Baia and into the top corner. A wonderful header from Baraja who was named man of the match.

After the break, Canizares saved a near post shot from Carlos Alberto, but on 67 minutes Valencia claimed the crucial second goal. Di Vaio made no mistake this time as he headed Vicente’s cross past Baia who perhaps should have done a little better.

The Ches were knocking the ball around with confidence now, and Baraja headed into the ground and onto the bar.

Maniche should have reduced the arrears on 75 when he headed Seitaridis’ cross over the bar.

Substitute Ricardo Quaresma gave Porto a lifeline when he drilled a magnificent shot past Canizares and into the top right-hand corner.

The Portuguese club pressed for an equaliser but Valencia held firm to claim their first silverware of the season.

Muscle strain makes Diarra a doubt
Wednesday, 8 September 2004

Olympique Lyonnais midfield player Mahamadou Diarra is struggling to be fit for the UEFA Champions League visit of Manchester United FC next Wednesday.

Pulled muscle
The 23-year-old Malian international, who played all ten of Lyon's Champions League matches last season before the loss to FC Porto, pulled a thigh muscle in training. Diarra missed the opening two games of Lyon's title defence as he recovered from a groin injury sustained at the end of last term and is also out of Saturday's trip to Stade Rennais FC. In addition to Manchester United, Lyon will play AC Sparta Praha and Fenerbahçe SK in Group D.

Porto lose Nuno Valente
Wednesday, 8 September 2004

A knee injury sustained on international duty at the weekend has ruled Nuno Valente out of the first game of FC Porto's UEFA Champions League defence.

Knee knock
When the Portuguese and European champions tackle PFC CSKA Moskva on Tuesday, the left-back will be watching from the Estádio do Dragão stands. Nuno Valente took a blow to his knee during Portugal's opening 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory in Latvia, forcing him off and out of tonight's home fixture against Estonia.

Season opener
The 29-year-old will therefore be missing when the Dragons begin their SuperLiga season at SC Braga on Saturday. Porto had to postpone their scheduled opening game against UD Leiria due to UEFA Super Cup commitments.

Mido to miss Dynamo date
Wednesday, 8 September 2004

Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' will not be able to make his UEFA Champions League debut for AS Roma against FC Dynamo Kyiv next week as he recovers from a muscle injury.

Madrid next
"I will be out of action for ten days," said the 21-year-old Egypt striker, a €6m deadline-day purchase from Olympique de Marseille. "I will miss the first Champions League game but will probably be available for the second." After opening their Group B campaign at home to the Ukrainian champions on Wednesday, Roma take on Real Madrid CF and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Völler reign
Before Roma's date with Dynamo, however, Rudi Völler will get his reign as coach under way on Sunday with a Serie A fixture against ACF Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico.

Szabo confirmed as Dynamo coach
Thursday, 9 September 2004

Ukrainian champions FC Dynamo Kyiv have confirmed the appointment of Jozsef Szabo as their head coach on a full-time basis. The 64-year-old initially took charge of the team in a caretaker capacity following the dismissal of Oleksiy Mykhaylychenko last month.

Club statement
The 64-year-old has agreed an open-ended contract and a club statement said: "It has been almost a month since Szabo took over as coach and we are happy about our decision which proved to be the correct one. The new coach worked out the reasons for the crisis which hit Dynamo, achieved an understanding with the players and has led them back to winning ways."

Champions League victory
Mykhaylychenko was dismissed after the 2-1 home defeat by Trabzonspor in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. Under Szabo, Kyiv won the second leg 2-0 in Istanbul to advance to the group stage and they have won their three other matches since he took charge.

Acclaimed coach
One of the most experienced and acclaimed Ukrainian coaches and a former Soviet international midfield player, Szabo won four league titles and the Ukrainian Cup during a previous spell in charge of the club in the 1990s. He has also coached at FC Zarya Lugansk, FC SKA Kyiv and FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Roma test
Dynamo chairman Igor Surkis said: "Szabo has passed the test that he set himself. Now I wish him every success and further victories with Dynamo." Kyiv open their Champions League Group B campaign with a visit to AS Roma on Wednesday.

Nowotny to miss Madrid rematch
Thursday, 9 September 2004

Jens Nowotny is losing his battle to be fit for Bayer 04 Leverkusen's opening UEFA Champions League game against Real Madrid CF on Wednesday.

Knee problems
The Germany central defender, who has suffered two cruciate ligament injuries in recent seasons, underwent surgery to clean his right knee two weeks ago. The 30-year-old will miss Saturday's Bundesliga game against newly promoted 1. FSV Mainz 05, and although he could make a return to training at the beginning of next week, he is unlikely to be available for next Wednesday's Group B game at the BayArena.

History repeated
The meeting with Madrid offers Leverkusen an opportunity to exact a revenge of sorts for their 2-1 defeat by Madrid in the Champions League final in 2002. Nowotny was forced to watch that game from the sidelines after he was stretchered off injured during the semi-final against Manchester United FC.

Bayern lose Santa Cruz
Friday, 10 September 2004

FC Bayern Munchen striker Roque Santa Cruz will be missing for the next six weeks after undergoing knee surgery last night.

Right knee injury
The 23-year-old hurt his right knee during Paraguay's FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Venezuela last Sunday. After returning to Munich he had the injury checked by club doctor Hans Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt yesterday, who diagnosed cartilage damage and ordered immediate surgery.

Maccabi opener
If Santa Cruz is absent for fully six weeks, he will not appear in the UEFA Champions League before November at the earliest. Bayern's European campaign begins on Wednesday with a visit to Group C rivals Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC.

Options limited
Bayern coach Felix Magath has seen his striking options limited by injuries so far this season. Claudio Pizarro returned to training today after recovering from a fractured skull, but will need time to get fully fit. Alexander Zickler is still recovering from a broken leg and youngster Paolo Guerrero has torn a knee ligament.

Partner for Makaay
Santa Cruz has started two of Bayern's three Bundesliga matches to date alongside Roy Makaay and in the Paraguayan's absence the most likely partner for the Dutch striker appears to be either Iranian international Vahid Hashemian - Bayern's €2m summer signing from VfL Bochum 1848 - or the veteran Mehmet Scholl.
