- RVP has had one season so far in his career that put him on the list of "great players" out there and he waited till 28 yo for that. What that tells me is that he is a lot more likely to be a 1-season wonder, a pretend great player than a genuine one. So Arsenal sells him for 25+ mil and gets rid of a monstrous salary at the same time. Considering his injury history and being 29 already, I'd say they did the right thing. The issue for them would be whether they would find a way to replace RVP properly and invest the money in the right player(s) as opposed to having lost him in the first place.

well, I can understand your getting caught up in the hype but the reality is that before last season, hardly anyone here would have gone as far as calling RVP a "great player" let alone waste precious time fapping on his poster.

Even if our offer would have surely been lower than that, with the millions they've gained from selling him to an EPL club, they could end up losing more in the long run.

the reality is that with or without RVP at Arsenal, there are 3 teams in the EPL head and shoulders above the rest and Arsenal ain't one of them, so selling RVP to one of those teams, is unlikely to change the status quo in England, for awhile.
of course losing RVP can affect Arsenal's bid for the 4th spot in the EPL but if they invest smartly, they can diminish the effect by increasing production from the team as a whole as opposed to being RVP + 10 others like last year. All in all, they were bound to face this situation if not now then in 2 or so years' time anyway ... better do it sooner with 25+ mil more to invest and no-big salary to spend on an aging player with a rich injury history to boot.
