I'm not saying Man Utd are a bad team.

However, they ought to be right up with the very best teams.

Being in the top two in the EPL is not an achievement for them, nor is getting through the groups of the CL.

Anything less than winning the EPL and reaching the semi-finals of the CL will be considered to be a failure by them.

Do you see them winning the EPL?

Do you see them going far in the CL (unless they get a very easy draw)?

I'd expect them to finish second in the league and be knocked out of the CL as soon as they play against any half decent side (probably in the quarter final).

Yes, probably quarter-final

Don't underrate Alex Ferguson, never ever.

yes and no - considering who is coaching City and the galore of question marks Chelsea is facing (many new players, no Drogba and RDM as a coach in his 1st full season), I'd say ManU have a very good shot at winning the EPL even without reinforcing the defense (Rio and Vidic are injury prone, the rest are crap) and the midfield, which (winning the EPL) they almost did and should have done last year, tbh.

For leaving a mark in the CL elimination stages, I would say it's imperative that they reinforce the CM position and preferably the D too.

Do you really think that I, of all people, would underrate Ferguson? :D

I can't see Man City not winning the EPL, unless they go really far in the CL and Man Utd go out of Europe quite early, which is possible.

Man Utd might win the league, because I see them racking up heaps of points against the shit teams, but they probably won't do much against the stronger EPL sides (much like Milan have been in Serie A in the last couple of years).

With the midfield they have right now, I just can't see them winning many games against good teams - either in England or abroad.

Wouldn't say Vidic is injury prone.

He's just had one serious injury.

They very obviously need to strengthen their CM.

Do you realise that they still manage to won EPL when their roster was worse than now in 10 time??

Can you give me an example of a year when they won with a weaker team?

Anyway, I'm not saying they can't win the league, just that they probably won't.

It's not a weak team they have - the attacking strength they have is awesome - but their CM is so far behind that of other top sides that they are likely to be dominated in that area of that pitch when playing good teams.

there is little to compare there - back then the team was alot more balanced w/ Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Keane, RVN, Neville still at their best.

The only ManU player I see making that team of 10 years ago is Vidic ... and maybe Evra, tbh. even players like Nani, Rooney, RVP would be sitting on the bench for that team.

Beckham was on his way to selling boxers, Keane started to have problems with Ferguson, Van Persie e Rooney > RVN who else?

Very low points total that year, though, to win the title.

Can you see this season being one where the top sides drop heaps of points?

And I would dispute just how much weaker that Man Utd side was than the current one.

That side was on the down, but still pretty strong that season.

That's they key, Ferguson is showing good results even when he had opponent like Arsenal with Vieira, Henry, Pires, Adams etc. who was better team in that period than United

Now Man Utd is good damn machine, especially when it comes to attack players

that's something one would say only if one has never watched RVN play, which I have always suspected you haven't ;)

doesn't matter the circumstances - that was a team loaded with legendary players from top to bottom. None of the current ManU players are likely to come even close to that status (except Vidic, possibly) at the end of the their careers.
and again, that team was a lot more balanced as a team altogether.

btw, I agree with you that ManU can win the EPL the way they are as I don't think their opposition is as strong as they seem on paper. ;)

I never rated high Van Persie, never, but in the last season he showed that is vital in finishing as fuck so i can't wait to see their tandem with Rooney
