Thought I read somewhere that Daglish took the blame for the transfer. Isn't it well documented he wanted/approved the Carroll deal? That was all last minute madness from what I can remember. Suarez is far more a 'Comolli signing' from what I know from the past. I wouldn't expect/put it on Comolli to deal with an on-field incident like that however. If I were Liverpool I would just let him do transfers and scouting meaning transfers and scouting only. Not man management. Who knows, maybe the board were trying to send a 'message'.
"Once I made the choice who I wanted Damien went away and did a fantastic job of bringing them in". (from the Telegraph) That's what Kenny actually said at the presser yesterday. And both have been recently quoted as saying their transfer work is a collaboration.
Comoli wasn't Head Scout, he's the Director of Football Strategy. The big cheese so to say. So his job is to decide ultimately whether a transfer was 1) Good enough and 2) financially viable. He's paid to deal with things like the Suarez debacle, which apparently didn't adequately defend the player (just hearsay I've read).
I was surprised to see Comolli go. I think it's quite obvious that the owners are sending a message. If you're the DOF, you need to be the top dog.
I think Kenny is out as well. But he's being given the chance to finish the season since he's a club legend and all. I know Werner said his job was safe for now, but if we bring in a new DOF I can't see him letting Kenny push him around. After what happened to Comolli. Especially, if it's someone like Van Gaal.
I could see Kenny being placed in a front office role. Something like Head of Footballing Advocacy. Some mascot job with little responsibility.
