The thing is Comolli is good at working towards youth, with that team or for those in the first team. He's not the guy you give £100m to. I mean, everybody (especially in the UK) knew about Bale at Southampton, he was raved about just as Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain were, but somebody had to take the chance on him. I think they paid something like £9m for him when he was about 18, a Championship player, but he has developed from a kid with a great left foot to a physical beast, and now is worth 4 times that.

He did well with quite a few of the younger lads at Spurs. Modric was quite well known in Europe but still young when he joined, but that was also for a shitload of money, when you compare it to other players Dinamo Zagreb sold. I think his reputation is built on few individual successes. It's fine to look towards young players, but not when you are paying fees for them that you would expect for established and experienced internationals. Then you put your neck on the line.

Two Liverpool defenders... one Carragher and I forget the other one, both just stood by the ball waiting for the other to clear then when Carragher finally does he hits a weak ball right off an Everton player and it bounces to Jelavic for a rather easy shot past the keeper. Fucking hilarious.

I don't know what's better, the fact the Liverpool or failing or the fact that an American who came in to do it efficiently is the cause alongside the clubs second/third biggest legend.

It's like a greek tragedy
