Probably, but I don't think Podolski is that much of an improvement especially on the long term. And Wenger would probably end up playing him in a wrong position, like he's done with Arshavin.
I think Arsenal signing Podolski are trying to make a statement that they are looking to improve and willing to spent money and sign big names.
Not sure about Gibbs, he seems to be decent, but too injury prone. I'm yet to be impressed with him. I remember Nani and most of our wingers tearing him to shreds every time we play Arsenal.
I actually think that Podolski would be a welcome addition to the squad as long as he isn't being brought as a replacement for RVP. I'm not convinced with our wing options, neither Theo or Gervinho are anywhere near consistent enough, Theo is asking for a huge salary that the club is reluctant to pay him btw, so there is also the chance that Theo might be sold next summer. It also means that Arshavin will definitely not be coming back, so all in all i think he's an upgrade over our wing positions, therefore a good signing. He can score goals, he's got a lot of technique in that left foot of his.
As for Gibbs, he has never really convinced me to be honest, defensively he is very poor, his positioning is just too awkward, and is susceptible to balls being played behind him. I want to see how well Santos does when he comes back from injury, but i doubt Wenger will go for any left back this summer.
