United survived the tough schedule and they lost only 2 of the possible 12 pts against Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Now they only have City and piss easy teams (WBA, Wolves, Fulham, Blackburn, QPR, Wigan, Villa at home, Everton at home, Swansea, Sunderland). City on the other hand have away matches to Arsenal and New Castle and home matches with Chelsea and United.
Ya, United proved me wrong in the respect that they got over their tough schedule. I still stand by my opinion that City will win the league though. United have the ability to win games ugly, like they did yesterday. But their defense isn't as strong as it used to be, so they do depend a bit on the teams in front of them not being clinical enough to take advantage of that, that won't happen with City though. City will beat them and win the league imo.
Still, it isn't going to be as clear cut as i thought admittedly. If City gets through the next 5 games and stays on top of the EPL they will have a huge chance of winning the league.
Their next 5 games are:
Swansea (A) Not an easy game, Swansea are a tough nut to crack at home, but i expect City to scrape through this one and get 3 points.
Chelsea (H) Chelsea are not going through a good phase, and its at the Ittihad stadium which has been a fortress this season (They have a 100% record at home), i'm ready to bet money, they will win this one.
Stoke City (A) Anyone who follows the EPL knows that this is always one of the toughest games of the season that needs a special kind of preparation, not only physical but huge mental preparation as well. I will not be surpised if they drop points in this one, but if City really want to win the league, they have to overcome this game and come out with 3 points. Stoke City are going to make it very difficult though, and even though they don't beat the big teams at home very often, they almost always cancel the opposition out and come out with a draw at least. This will be a defining game in City's season.
Sunderland (H) Easy game, guaranteed 3 points.
Arsenal (A) We're probably the most unpredictable team in the league. If RVP decided to have another world class performance, we might well get something out of this. If not, they'll win it. Unpredictable game, could be very decisive in the title challenge.
If they come out after the Arsenal game on top of the league, i'm willing to bet you my avatar that City will win the league.
He got in over his dead. He runs a specific system which requires certain types of players, which he didn't have at Chelsea. Plus he had an owner who is basically an 8 year old child and players that think they're too important to play well.
Should have stayed in Porto and coached a few seasons in the CL. Then we'd know how good he really is. He wasn't experienced enough to coach and politically lobby for his position.
I don't think he's a horrible coach, he just wasn't the man for this job. His season at Porto was great and showed that the guy has potential to be a world class coach. However, I think that his inexperience at the top level is to blame for all this, the guy certainly tried to implement the system he's familiar with, but I think he lacked the experience and the ability to adapt and change his style in order to suit the players he had at his disposal. Not too mention that the squad is in serious need of a rejuvenation. Trying to play a high defensive line and wanting to implement nice attacking football while clearly lacking the players to do so is a clear example of that. His rotation policy was also strange to say the least, I know rotating is normal, but changing 5-6 players (while not having gargantuan squad like city) from the starting lineup almost every game is not.
It's a combination of all this (plus having feuds with key players) that got him and the team in this position, things weren't any good in the locker room and it showed in the field and the player's motivation.
I think he can be a good coach, he shouldn't have taken the Chelsea job, that's all.
Agree with both of you. He's a good coach, but he tried to play a certain way at Chelsea, and he really didn't have the players for it.
