I dont think he is a bad coach. He would not have done so well with Porto otherwise. I think it is Roman's fault he did not succeed cuz he may have spent a lot of money to hire AVB but he did not give him the players he wanted to succeed. Samething when Carlo was coach.. he was forced to mostly make do with the squad at his disposal. When Ranieri was there he went on a spending spree and so did Mourinho .. Thats why he was so successful. They same was not offered to the coaches after him at Chelsea. The only notable player AVB brought that was his choice was Mata.

still, AVB cannot be absolved completely because a good/great coach should be able to adjust his tactics to the personnel he has at his disposal so he can get the best out of them. After all, it's not very realistic to expect Chelsea to buy an entirely new team, or close to it, just to fit his requirements. In the end of the day, at Chelsea he may not have had the right players to fit the system he used at Porto but he still had a very good roster and he failed get the best out of it by making adjustments to his beloved system.

As mentioned earlier by others, I think AVB simply wasn't mature enough and ready for the challenge and responsibilities that come with being Chelsea's HC these days. Being able to "connect" with famous, star players i.e. big egos and make them get on your side and give their very best on the field, day in and day out, is also an art in itself ... and it seems he has yet to master it.

United survived the tough schedule and they lost only 2 of the possible 12 pts against Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Now they only have City and piss easy teams (WBA, Wolves, Fulham, Blackburn, QPR, Wigan, Villa at home, Everton at home, Swansea, Sunderland). City on the other hand have away matches to Arsenal and New Castle and home matches with Chelsea and United.
Ya, United proved me wrong in the respect that they got over their tough schedule. I still stand by my opinion that City will win the league though. United have the ability to win games ugly, like they did yesterday. But their defense isn't as strong as it used to be, so they do depend a bit on the teams in front of them not being clinical enough to take advantage of that, that won't happen with City though. City will beat them and win the league imo.

Still, it isn't going to be as clear cut as i thought admittedly. If City gets through the next 5 games and stays on top of the EPL they will have a huge chance of winning the league.

Their next 5 games are:
Swansea (A) Not an easy game, Swansea are a tough nut to crack at home, but i expect City to scrape through this one and get 3 points.

Chelsea (H) Chelsea are not going through a good phase, and its at the Ittihad stadium which has been a fortress this season (They have a 100% record at home), i'm ready to bet money, they will win this one.

Stoke City (A) Anyone who follows the EPL knows that this is always one of the toughest games of the season that needs a special kind of preparation, not only physical but huge mental preparation as well. I will not be surpised if they drop points in this one, but if City really want to win the league, they have to overcome this game and come out with 3 points. Stoke City are going to make it very difficult though, and even though they don't beat the big teams at home very often, they almost always cancel the opposition out and come out with a draw at least. This will be a defining game in City's season.

Sunderland (H) Easy game, guaranteed 3 points.

Arsenal (A) We're probably the most unpredictable team in the league. If RVP decided to have another world class performance, we might well get something out of this. If not, they'll win it. Unpredictable game, could be very decisive in the title challenge.

If they come out after the Arsenal game on top of the league, i'm willing to bet you my avatar that City will win the league.

He got in over his dead. He runs a specific system which requires certain types of players, which he didn't have at Chelsea. Plus he had an owner who is basically an 8 year old child and players that think they're too important to play well.

Should have stayed in Porto and coached a few seasons in the CL. Then we'd know how good he really is. He wasn't experienced enough to coach and politically lobby for his position.
I don't think he's a horrible coach, he just wasn't the man for this job. His season at Porto was great and showed that the guy has potential to be a world class coach. However, I think that his inexperience at the top level is to blame for all this, the guy certainly tried to implement the system he's familiar with, but I think he lacked the experience and the ability to adapt and change his style in order to suit the players he had at his disposal. Not too mention that the squad is in serious need of a rejuvenation. Trying to play a high defensive line and wanting to implement nice attacking football while clearly lacking the players to do so is a clear example of that. His rotation policy was also strange to say the least, I know rotating is normal, but changing 5-6 players (while not having gargantuan squad like city) from the starting lineup almost every game is not.

It's a combination of all this (plus having feuds with key players) that got him and the team in this position, things weren't any good in the locker room and it showed in the field and the player's motivation.

I think he can be a good coach, he shouldn't have taken the Chelsea job, that's all.
Agree with both of you. He's a good coach, but he tried to play a certain way at Chelsea, and he really didn't have the players for it.

He's an amazing coach. Everton will sink without him. The consistency he's achieving with a very small budget is really amazing. He never makes it easy for the big teams either, Goodison Park has been a fortress against the big teams over the past few years.

Has he ever been approached to coach one of the bigger teams in EPL? I've never heard of it happening and I am really surprised.

It hasn't happened. Most of the big clubs look outside for their coaches, and when Liverpool tried bringing in a coach from the EPL (Hodgson) we all know how that ended. IMO if Redknapp leaves Tottenham, they should definitely look into bringing in Moyes.

I've always said i don't mind Arsene leaving anymore, not a huge fan of his team selection and tactics anymore, as we certainly don't have the players that fit his philosophy(players he chose himself), but if Arsene leaves and we still have our current board(which imo is a bigger problem than Wenger) then we're really doomed.

Plenty of people here want this, believe me.

It's good for a few years at least, then you are open to a loss of interest or meddling.

Spurs are a really stupid team when the don't have Modric and Van der Vaart in the middle to balance out all the brainless runners they have.

Thought it was hilarious that they managed to gift Man Utd two goals - from a corner and a throw-in - on the only two occasions Man Utd had managed to attack in the game.

If there's one person who deserves to at least get a chance to coach a top team in the EPL, it's David Moyes.
IMO if Redknapp leaves Tottenham, they should definitely look into bringing in Moyes.

So true. I can't believe the English pundits want us to believe that the extremely limited Kyle Walker is a top fullback. He's such an unintelligent defender, and is really nothing but a runner. In fairness to him though, he is probably one of the fastest fullbacks not only in the EPL but in Europe.

Wow, somebody doesn't rate Walker, come her I want to give a you a hug. I get sick when I hear people talk about Walker being the best RB in England this season. This guy is not as half as good as Sagna and will never be.
What makes me more sick, when people say that he is better than Rafael.
