One risk a year shouldn't hurt though. You should always be trying to invest in one scouted talent...ala Appelt brothers, etc. They weren't expensive but in two years time they could be great additions, if not well then we should have more signed within those 2 years.
I hate to use Hamsik, Pastore, Sanchez, etc as examples again...but surely it couldn't hurt to sign these kinds of promising youngsters every couple season, no?
I understand building a solid base and agree with it, but instead of spending 12m on Martinez last year we could have bought 2-3 really promising youngsters for that price without jeopardizing the base.
