I don't know how to explain it in English...lets say this way....the word hurts...you pronounce it without the U and you say hrts. But there is a sound between H and R. The H is long because it takes some time between pronouncing the H and pulling your tongue up to say the R.
The same is in srpski.

Which isn't the case, for example, in the word truth. There is no space, time and sound between the T and the R.

So the R is a vowel in srpski but in fact the vowel is the sound you make with the long H.
