They don't need to rely on Anelka, the thing about Anelka thats going for him is that he and Drogba have an almost telepathic understanding, but if he doesn't deliver they could always revert to their old 4-3-3 and play Malouda and Benayoun/Kalou on the wings.

I agree about them needing a keeper, Cech gets injured too much and neither Turnball nor Hilario are good enough to replace him for an extended period of time.

Bosingwa coming back will pose an interesting dilemma for Ancelotti, Ivanovic had a very good season last year and was IMHO the best and most consistent rightback in the EPL last season, Bosingwa will have to fight for his position back.

Essien is a world class player, easily one of the best and most complete midfielders in the world right now. Him coming back for Chelsea is like a new signing, if he manages to stay fit for next season, Chelsea's midfield will be a lot better.

Yeah i agree that Anelka and Drogba are a deadly partnership, i was referring to the fact that neither of them are getting any younger and with Drogba likely to pick up an injury someway through the season (he's already injured iirc) i wouldn't give all the responsability to Anelka playing as CF. And i'm not too sure that Sturridge has what it takes to replace neither of them. Malouda was in outstanding form last season.

Bosingwa will give more options to Ancelotti IMO he's better than Ivanovic going forward, the latter being better defensive wise though. So who'll get the nod depends of his judgement on singular games.

I doubt Branislav will be in the bench too much though, he's a very versatile player who can play almost any position in defence (barring lb i guess) and he could also play as DM. I agree, however, that he was the best right back in EPL last season and Bosingwa having to fight for his position can only be healthy for the club.

Essien return is great for the club, i personally think Mikel doesn't hold a candle to him in fact i think he's rather average. But i still think they could do with a signing in midfield provided Deco is shown the door. I can't form any kind of judgement over Ramires since i haven't seen him play but i hope he's good.

Remember Chelsea's main objective next season is most probably the CL and if they want to have a shot at both the EPL and the CL more depth is needed. And specially getting rid of deadwood like Belletti etc. Personally i'd like to see more of Kakuta and Matic.

I just watched the U19's final, and Kakuta looked really impressive, i think they'll probably give him a chance next season.

I don't know much about Ramires other than seeing him play for his NT in the WC and the last Confed Cup, and in both tournaments he was really good. He's got bags of stamina, he's energetic, he's good at dispossessing balls, and he's stronger than he looks. Him, Essien and Lampard in midfield sounds strong to me.

I agree that Mikel isn't that good. I don't think he would have played so much had Essien been fit last season, though personally i feel Essien is somewhat restricted when played as the holding midfielder, alongside another holding mid where he's free to play as a more natural box to box midfielder is what i feel his ideal role is.

Last reports linking Chelsea with a forward were about Torres (which is media bs i think) and Agüero who also stated that he would love to play in Chelsea but the rumours have freezed down lately.

Essien is better as a box to box midfielder i agree but even as holding midfielder he's miles ahead of mikel, if ramires is as good as you say i would gladly play a midfield of Essien Lampard and Ramires specially since both Lampard and Essien do both defense and attack duties not to mention that Lampard scores goals for fun.

Is Ramires any good defensive wise? i'm under the impression that he's a plain CM or AM.

My impression of Ramires is that he's a two way midfielder, but one that cannot play as a holding mid. So if they play 3 in midfield, i'd put my money on Essien taking the holding midfielder role, unless Mikel plays.

On another note, Aaron, did you watch the U19's final? Your boy Pacheco impressed me, he didn't have the best of games, as he played very well in the first half, and faded away in the second half, but from his first half performance, you could see the boy has potential. His assist for Spain's goal was very good too. You reckon he'd get a few chances in the first team next season??

I didn't see the match, but I saw him play against Italy and Portugal in earlier matches. He's been really good he whole tournament. I hope Hodgson will have recognized his quality.

The rumor is that he'll be sent to Spain on loan to get 1st team experience. With he break out planned for the next season.

I think it depends on whether we sign a back up striker and keep Kuyt or not. If we sign someone like Carlton Cole, then Pacheco would only get in during LC matches. We've also got N'Gog, Eccleston, LDV, and Babel looking to play striking roles this season, so it's a fairly long line. Hopefully Eccleston and LDV will be loaned out to gain experience.
