The central defender's move to the Emirates completes a remarkable rise for a footballer who was playing for Ligue 2 side Tours last year

So Lorient bought him and immediately sold him or he played for Lorient in the season that just finished and played for Tours the season before that?

I looked it up. He played last season in the 1st division. Season before that in the 2nd.

Doesn't really say much other than he's progressing as a player. But 10 million is quite a bit.

I thought that he played on loan at Tours

It's pretty much money, especially when Wenger is buying, but there must be something in him

He had a very good season last year, with the exception of a 4-1 drubbing by Bordeaux in which he was the worst player on the pitch by far and gave one of the worst defensive performances i've seen in a while. He was completely and utterly destroyed by David Bellion of all people. All in all, i was quite impressed by him last season, though i am not very happy of the signing. He is too similar to Vermaelen imo, and i somehow don't see them striking a good partnership.

A lot of people fear that he's a one season wonder, but i am fairly sure that Arsene has been watching him for years, he never buys players unless he's watched them play over an extended period of time. Still, my biggest concern about him is not whether he's good enough but like i said, its that he's too similar to Thomas.

Serbia's Milan Jovanovic to completes Liverpool switch

Jovanovic is Anfield-bound after four successful seasons in Belgium

Liverpool have completed the signing of Serbia international striker Milan Jovanovic from Standard Liege on a three-year contract.

A deal for the 28-year-old was agreed in February, and he arrives at Anfield on a free transfer.

At the time, Jovanovic said: "I opted to sign for Liverpool because they're one of the biggest teams in Europe - definitely in the top 10."

He turned down Real Madrid last year fearing a lack of first team chances.

Jovanovic joined Standard in 2006 and helped them win back-to-back titles in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

He has also played for Shakhtar Donetsk and Lokomotiv Moscow, and made his international debut for Serbia in a 2-0 win over Finland in June 2007.

By default, he becomes the first arrival under Roy Hodgson, who took over as Liverpool boss on 1 July.

Liverpool made their move for Jovanovic under previous boss Rafael Benitez, who is now the manager of Inter Milan.

Arsene will go for one more defender imo! Also, afaik both Vermaelen and this new guy are lefties and Wenger likes to use one leftie and one right-footed defender for his cb pair, could this be a problem?

Koscielny is a right footed player actually, he just usually plays as the left sided centerback. I don't think it would be a problem for him to play as the right sided centerback at all.

I highly doubt Arsene will spend 10M for someone he wants to put on the bench.
