Liverpool can't fire him, unless they are willing to pay the £16m of his contract to get rid of him.

Benitiz will only leave Liverpool if he agrees to go.
Semantics. It makes no difference if he accepts the 3 million euro severance package he's allegedly been offered.

I think it's fairly safe to say the offer has been made.

BBC, SKY and The Times are all saying that happened, which is about as reliable as it gets for these things.

Pretty stupid by Liverpool, if it is true.

If they had just told Juve that Benitez could go for free, and told Benitez they didn't want him, Liverpool could probably have saved themselves several million quid.

Benitez was already signed with us by all accounts. It was Andrea who put a stop to it.

That's what most of the fans posting in forums are saying. A protest is planned for tomorrow night as well.
I saw. If Liverpool had financial backing then getting rid of Benitez would make sense because you could offer the new man a sizeable transfer kitty. As it stands you would lose more than you gain if Benitez goes.

We probably could have even asked for a few million euros out of the deal as well.

I guess we're not 350million in debt because our owners and board members are astute businessmen.

yeah, but he may not want to stay, if he's offered 3 mill payoff, considering the shitty transfer funds
You think he'll accept 3 million? he will not do the owners any favours. He'll hold out for much more. He holds all the cards he's under contract so they'll have to sack him then pay him 16 million. :lol2:

Rafa adds massive value to the club. :agree:

The same with Torres and Gerrard. Who wants to buy a club that's just sold off it's best assets?

I certainly hope he tells them to fuck off.

I see Gerrard going this summer to Madrid with Mourinho. If Benitez goes I think Torres would seek a move aswell.

Hopefully. This is why I'm against all this foreign ownership. It's ruining football.

We had English ownership before the Yanks and it was mediocre. But at least it wasn't this.
Your net spend was higher under English ownership and you were rather sound financially. I'd have to say from an outsider looking in, Liverpool looks in a very bleak situation at the moment.

That's true. Our net spend under the yanks is about 10 million a season.
