I'd be amazed if it was as low as £40k per week and somewhat surprised if it was as high as £80k.

I would have expected it to be around £60-70k per week.

Dunno. Respected papers here say it's 80K, though I agree that does sound high, just as 40K sounds low. I figured he was already on such a contract. :D

Robbie Keane gets ~£60k per week and was brought back from Liverpool to be a key player in the squad, so I would expect Modric to be getting something similar to that.

It's certainly not impossible that he is getting £80k per week, especially if Modric threatened to go to Man Utd if Spurs didn't come up with the cash.

Perhaps we're selling them Benny to pay Joe's wages?

It makes sense from a financial stand point, Benny is almost 30 and if we don't want to sell Torres or Gerrard, the next best thing is Mascherano or Benny.

Indeed. However when David Villa goes for 35 million I expect Torres to go for about 50 considering his injuries.
I don't see the club letting him go for less than 60.

Personally I'd rather keep him. If he has a healthy season like his first at Pool he could single handedly bring us back to the top 4.

City and Tottenham both have better squads than Liverpool and will get stronger. Liverpool will not finish in the top 4 next season in my opinion. As good as Torres is he cannot alter the fact other teams around you are alot stronger.

That's debatable. The major thing separating us and them is depth. If Gerrard and Torres had an injury free season I doubt Liverpool would have finished less than 4th.
