Xabi gone wouldn't be so much of a problem if you played a different style and had a bulldog up top. But just by watching today I could tell something was missing from the side, and for that to occur on day one would be extremely irritating and scary to me.

Tottenham actually looked somewhat capable, to my dismay.

Rafa wants to change the style to one holding midfielder instead of two. With Lucas/Aquilani linking the play between Torres and Gerrard. Having two weeks to instill the new philosophy isn't ideal, but I'm fairly positive they will get thing right in the next couple of weeks. We play Stoke next.

Our center back situation doesn't help either. Especially with Carra nursing a thigh strain and Skrtel injuring himself (or being injured by others) every 20 minutes. I can just imagine us losing to Stoke with Kelly and Ayala starting.

I wonder why we don't just toss 6 million euro as the 'Boro and snap up Tuncay? The guy can play numerous positions and would add much needed depth to the squad. With his low cost I think he would be a steal.

Tuncay would be a real steal for you guys, play him off Torres and Gerrard with some sort of free-role.

Oh and rumor is we're selling Voronin to HIV (I know) this week for 3.5million.:disagree:
Not a bad bit of business since you signed him for free no? nor did he set the EPL on fire. The problem is all this selling is going on at the wrong time, season has started and clubs are playing hard ball in letting there players go. Lescott and Everton prime example. The question is though will Rafa spend the money.

Sure it isn't bad business financially, but Voronin is our most experienced striker after Torres. Selling him without getting a better replacement would be bad for the team at this point. Plus Voronin had a solid season at HSV last year and I'd (personally) like to see him get a chance.

Im sure Benitez has something up his sleave, the man is to experienced to not have. I would not be worried just yet, new formation is going to take time for players to adjust. People are acting like your seasons over after one game which is not the case. Manchester United were lacking today and 1-0 at home to Birmingham is hardly convincing is it?. Liverpool will be up there at the end of the season thats for sure.

Are Carragher and Skrtel out next week then?. They did seem to clash quite hard today.
Skrtel is the worse off of the two. It isn't yet known when he'll be back. Carra had two injuries already (ankle against Madrid) and some sort of strain (hip or thigh I believe) which he played through today. Agger is out for a while too and we sold Arbeloa.

Xabi was never as important as Torres and Gerrard to the Pool. At times, he wasn't even as important as Reina and Carragher to the Pool.

Benitez hasn't shown much in EPL, true, but his team has always been a contender for winning it. You're writing them off from the first four.
You are really underrating Alonso's importance to Pool. They missed him more than they missed anyone else last season. He used to keep the play fluid in midfield and was vital to Liverpool maintaining possession in midfield. I'm with Andy and Red on this one, Aquilani will not be able to replace him. He doesn't have the tactical impetus nor the football mind that Alonso has. Even though he is very talented.
