Benitez shouldn't have benched Benayoun unless Ahmadinejad had threatened him.

I thought that: 1) It was shoulder to shoulder and 2) Voronin had already lost control of the ball.

And let's face it, it has to be a really clear penalty before you will get more than on penalty in a game.
Yes, but it was a penalty. Voronin was pushed and it was a foul even though Voronin had no chance to get the ball.

It might seem ridiculous now, but there is a chance of it.

I just don't see them having a very good season.

But I predict that Liverpool will finish 5th. We'll see what happens.
But why? Xabi is gone, Aquilani is there. Big difference but ManU have missed on Ronaldo as well. Adebayor and Toure are not playing for Arsenal anymore and Chelsea ain't stronger than their last season' team. Liverpool are always a contender for both EPL and CL as long as they have Benitez in charge.

Most people would probably say that Manure will suffer without Ronaldo, but I think Ferguson is too good for that. I think they can continue to challenge. Liverpool on the other hand just don't have a groundbreaking squad or didn't really improve upon their positions. Without Xabi and with a relentlessly unfit Aquilani, they will have a lot of problems in my view, and I've been saying this for weeks now. If they had won today I'd still say the same thing.

Benitez hasn't shown much in the Premiership either I'm afraid.

Xabi was never as important as Torres and Gerrard to the Pool. At times, he wasn't even as important as Reina and Carragher to the Pool.

Benitez hasn't shown much in EPL, true, but his team has always been a contender for winning it. You're writing them off from the first four.

You are woefully underrating Alonso here, and it will be shown throughout this season how important Alonso was - especially if Aquilani is injured most of the time.

Yeah Hoori, I'd have to say the same as Red. Xabi was extremely important to Pool's fluidity. Ask Aaron how important the guy was to the team.

Aquilani won't be able to replace him, I'm 99% sure.

Even if arsenal sold their 29 registered players they'll still in one way or another be strong thanks to wenger's genious. They should build a statue and worship him for what he had done for that club so far........

Man I don't care much about this season. How can we expect to win the league with Alonso in Madrid and a bench consisting of Daniel Sanchez Ayala and Voronin?

That said, I didn't get to watch the game, but I read that Johnson and Yossi were good while everyone else sucked.

The voronin ball was absolutely a PK. The defender was playing the ball, he obviously went to the body. Also tottenham should do something about gomez, looks like a big liability

He did beat Man United without the help of Gerrard or Torres.

As for Aquilani, even he said he can't replace Xabi.

Boy do we need some help on the wings and up from.

Lucas in my opinion didn't do that many mistakes. His only problem that he didn't get involved alot. He needs to ask for the ball and start building up plays, but from the look of it he just doesn't have it. Liverpool bench also need some strengthing, a team like liverpool can't have only one forward on the bench and who is really average

We've got N'Gog, but then its the 18 year olds who play on the reserves. Benitez apparently has a lot of favor in N'Gog. Lucas as well.

If you guys got Tevez, you'd kill two birds with one stone.

You wouldn't have to worry as much about the wings.

But if Aqui doesn't even believe in himself, you've got major problems.

I've seen N'gog play last year, and he is not ready to perform on this level yet. I was looking at both benches today, and tottenham had many options, while on the hand, yussi was the only possible game changer caliber on yuor bench. you definitely need to reinforce in the market before it closes.

Compare liverpool forwards to the top English teams

Man u Rooney Berba Owen Machida welback
Chelsea anelka Drogba shevchenko pizzaro kalou
Arsenal eduardo RVP arshvin bendtner and they want to add chamakh
city tevez bayor bellammy robinho RSC
Liverpool Torress and bunch of nobodies vornin and N'gog

I like torress and I believe he is the top forward in the EPL, but you need a #10 type next to him and gerrard behind

There are rumors of Negredo coming on loan, but I'm pretty sure Rafa is convinced that N'Gog can do the job.:disagree:

N'Gog definitely has potential, but is hardly the backup to torres that we need. And Alonso really was crucial for us last year, but I think it was a tough decision for us, Xabi clearly wanted to go, and had handed in a transfer request, and I don't think would have performed nearly as well this season had we blocked his move. And let's face it, as good as Alonso is, 30 million quid for someone his age is nuts

It's just silly to sell a player that is as important as Alonso so late in the window. It's obvious from what I've read and seen in the friendlies that the players aren't sure of how to play without him. They'll figure it out eventually, but there is a huge difference in coping without Alonso over a month of friendly matches and struggling without him in the first month of the season.
