uk law may be one thing, media influence and power another ...

i do bet that he will not be 2 days in jail for that.

the english people are too proud of their footballers. i think they would not let gerrard miss any of his games, especially not in CL where he has to own the rest of europe to show the supremacy of the EPL.

if the trial is in liverpool i guess he will get away with paying some money and thats it ...

Tony Adams was jailed during the football season when he was an England international.

The trial can go two ways (if Gerrard is guilty): the judge can go easy on him because he is famous; or he can make an example of him because he is famous and give him quite a severe sentence.

First offence from Gerrard, so my guess is that he will get a suspended sentence, a fine and maybe some community service.

I'm still a minky student at the moment.

John Obi Mikel has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea and will now remain at the club until 2014

The Nigeria international joined the Blues in 2006 and has matured into a versatile midfield option during his time in England.

At only 22 years old the African ace has already made almost 100 appearances for Chelsea, helping the club to two FA Cup triumphs and a League Cup success.

He is delighted to have prolonged his association with the club and insists he needed no persuasion from new boss Carlo Ancelotti into penning a new deal.

"It was easy to commit to because I am happy here and when the opportunity came it was good to sign after speaking to the club," Mikel told Chelsea's official website.

"My future with the new manager will be bright and I think we have a good working relationship already.
Changes

"All the managers I have played for here have their own type of systems they want us to play, and whoever comes in will want to change little bits and pieces.

"There is not much to change but they all bring in different views, and the new manager wants us to play in a certain formation which we need to get used to before the season starts."

The new style in question has seen Italian tactician Ancelotti adopt a rigid 4-4-2 formation during pre-season fixtures.

That differs from the 4-3-3 option preferred by many of his predecessors, but Mikel insists the Chelsea squad are capable of adapting their game.

"It has been hard work getting back to fitness but we all want to be sharp for the start of the season, training is hard work but we have to do it," he added.

"The new formation doesn't make too much difference to me in defensive midfield, but perhaps it is a little harder as I have to cover more ground for the team, but I feel I am up to the task and I am sure I can do it."
