Liverpool were poor today. I'm not sure if Enron and Henry will agree with me on this one, but you guys lose so much in midfield when Xabi doesn't play. there doesn't seem to be any real distributor in midfield when he's out.

FFS

Arteta out for the season.

How unlucky can we possibly be?
Join the club mate. Before you do, i have to tell you its extremely depressing.

true, but they miss gerrard more. today just showed how much of a 1 man "team" they are. God knows what they'll do the day he hangs his boots up

But Gerrard missed a few other games and they did well without him. Namely the Man Utd game which they in fact won.
I completely agree with your above statements Fred. Alonso offers way more control and creativity in the midfield than Mascherano and Lucas who are basically the same player. Which is why I wanted to see Aurellio in the center of midfield again. Xabi Alonso is our most valuable player this season beyond a doubt. He kept us in the title race when Gerrard was out earlier in the season. It's a shame we won't get anything out of this year. Unless the Americans sell and we get new owners. That would be nice.

hopefully those hills u speak of are up the alps & he comes down the otehr side in turin and rests his weary feet at vinovo :D

on a diff note....... it's quite a bit of reading but here's the reason's keano left sunderland. he's finally spoken out. the article was well interesting but long as fuck!
He's more likely to end up somewhere in Spain. Probably at Madrid.

Exactly my sentiments. Was wondering if you'd agree :agree:

Completely agree with you Fred. Alonso makes the right passes and decisions far more consistently than any of our other players. Gerrard is more of a game winner because of his shooting and drive, but Alonso gives us control of the games tempo. As we become more and more of a passing and possession based team, his influence can not be understated. match winners are great, but if we can control the game better we don't need to rely so much on gerrard and torres.

As for Mascherano and Lucas, I have to say I completely disagree with you Aaron. Lucas is NOT a midfield destroyer at all, and shouldn't be put in that position. We've seen that his tackling is less than stellar certainly :D Lucas is a very different type of player. His strength is linking up play with short passing and movement, and while he's not very consistent with it, that's his role with Brazil. It's different from the very English ideas of attacking, defensive, box-to-box midfielders. It's much more subtle, but Lucas has the potential to become a very good one. I forget the actual name for it, some brazilian thing that means "steering wheel".
btw Aaron, did you check out the link I sent you? It really does a great job (also check out the sacchi thread on RAWK) of investigating what Benitez is doing for the long-term development of the club. Makes me even more worried than I would be otherwise if he leaves. While I sometimes want to shoot him for the bizarre subs etc, I think he's one of the best managers we could have for the long-term health of the club. He should be given the freedom and control he needs, especially with the youth system and the transfers. How many times have we been on the brink of signing a top class player, only for Parry to block the deal, (ie Alves years ago for around 15 million) because of the price, but then release the same amount or more, but for two players! Instead of sanctioning a transfer for a top player, we end up paying 7 for one mediocre player and 8 for a decent player. Of course, one could argue that the whole squad needed to be improved, but we've had opportunities to pick up top talent that doesn't come around too often, that we simply haven't taken.

so I hear.....if he leaves, it's going to be extremely difficult to find someone who will do as much for the long-term future of the club as Benitez has tried to do

Because almost all Liverpool fans want Benitez to stay and they will assume that the owners forced Benitez out by refusing to meet his demand's.

Liverpool fans would start protesting against the owners and generally kicking up a fuss.

well, in all honesty, most english liverpool supporters already hate H+G with a passion already, with boycotts of club merchandise, etc all in place. I don't hate them quite that much, if Benitez leaves I will be furious

You're looking for it in a puff piece consisting mostly of photographs.

Granted, most of the English print media fit that description, but still...
Oh, I've stopped looking.
On the other hand, that puff piece did manage to amuse me (e.g. the part about diving).
