Maybe so, time will tell I guess. Any idea on the Silva situation there Fred, seems to never play yet Wenger falling over himself to praise the Brasilian?
Wenger: Gilberto Still A ‘Key Person’

Brazilian midfielder, Gilvberto Silva made his first start of the season last night, but was not named as captain. Wenger insists though that Gilberto is still an integral part of his squad.

Goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski, 19, making only his second appearance for the club was chosen as captain, ahead of the vastly experienced Gilberto Silva, against Sheffield United last night.

The Brazilian has been frozen out of the side this season by Matthieu Flamini, after being an Arsenal mainstay last term.

Gilberto was rumoured to have been unhappy at being forced to play amongst Arseanl’s youth side for the evening, fuelling speculation about the Brazilians departure from the Emirates in January.

Wenger insists though that he still has a part to play "I didn't give the captaincy to Gilberto at the start of the season because I didn't want to give it him and take it away again," he said.

"Gilberto was a real leader on the pitch for me. There's basically no problem.

"I don't know why people see a problem with Gilberto. The only problem is that he doesn't get at the moment the number of games that he deserves."

"He is still a key person for me. There's not a lot more say," he added.

"There is no problem so I cannot create one, apart from the captaincy problem I have explained and he is perfectly aware of that."

Yeah it is strange...There was some rumors few days ago about Silva going to Milan in january.
You got the wrong year man, they meant in january 2017.

To be fair Flamini is doing just fine so there is no reason for Wenger to change his side but i was evry surprised to see he was not made captain yesterday in a team of kids.

Lets see if the much vaunted Tevez -Rooney partnership is all that or is it just what I suspect that it is yet another much hyped partnership that shines against shitty defences

Remember when people were lamenting Man Utd's lame run of 1-0 victories? They have been on a tear, scoring four goals in four straight games, reclaiming a share of first in the Premiership and reestablishing themselves as one of the most dangerous teams in the world. Carlos Tévez seems to finally have arrived, Nani is creating all kinds of problems on the wings and Cristiano Ronaldo is back to being Cristiano Ronaldo. But how will they respond without their steadiest producer, Paul Scholes, out three weeks with knee-ligament damage? Anderson could do the job, but can he handle big matches such as the up coming one agianst Arsonal?!! I guess will see!

Scholes is real quality, sure they'll miss him, but managed to win league without him last year & are much stronger/deeper in CM this term

There are rumours of a rift between Wenger and Gilberto..Allegedly Gilberto "refused" to play against Sheffield in the Carling Cup..And even when he played Wenger didnt give him the captains armband even though he was the most senior member of the squad and the only player above 23...Some people say that Gilberto is still not over the captaincy snub(when he decided on giving the captaincy to Gallas)..And personally i believe Wenger didnt give him the captains armband because he knew that he was going to drop him this season...Maybe because he slows our play down.

And about Wenger praising him..Never believe what wenger says in the media.

Fred, what's the status with Eduardo? Wenger seems to be giving him a hard time by not starting him, though when he did start he didn't always impress TBH. Is that treatment normal? I suppose it is with Wenger but I'm curious have there been negative rumours about him leaving, labeling him as a flop, etc.?

He did well against Sheffield, hope that gets him another starting chance so he can show his true worth.

Is Luka Modric pretty much set for Arsenal, or has that deal been scrapped? We should move in and snatch him under their noses.
Rumours say so, Arsenal or Bayern, I never heard anything relating him to us. God knows he'd be an ideal Nedved replacement but he is probably too young and too expensive for us. :rolleyes2

Yeah, funny. Last time I heard, Arsenal were rumored to have secured him for 8 million Pounds. Gee, too steep for our pockets.

The worst thing about it is that we can afford him. But no, we're gonna let another wonderkid go.

According to several Croatian newspapers, he has already attracted the attention of well-known German clubs like Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. He is also often mentioned in the same context with the Dutch club Ajax, however he continues to play for Dinamo. Modrić is contracted to the club until 2015, clearly showing to potential buyers that taking Modrić away won't come easy or cheap.

However on July 19, 2007 it was reported that the English side Arsenal won the right of first refusal on Luka Modrić's future transfer.
Unofficial reports subsequently emerged late on July 31 suggesting that Arsenal would take up this option immediately, having failed to lure their unknown primary target for the left wing. They purportedly will pay £8 million for the player. On 6th of August 2007 it was reported that Bayern Munich had agreed to a transfer of 30 million euros for the diminutive Dinamo Zagreb captain. Modrić rejected the chance to join Bayern claiming that he wanted to stay at Zagreb. He now looks certain to sign for Arsenal in the January transfer window after Dinamo admitted that Arsenal have first option on the player.
