It will be our reserves versus their first team at their ground: i'd love that result, but can't see it.

2-1 will be a good scoreline and then we can bring it back in the home leg.
hmm..i wish i knew that information before i bet on this game. i didn't even check if it was the leauge cup/fa cup, i thought it was the championship. :wallbang:

Arsenal are likely to play their reserves - much the same team as against Liverpool earlier in the competition. Their team that night:
Almunia, Djourou, Hoyte, Toure, Traore (Connolly), Baptista, Denilson, Fabregas, Song Bilong, Aliadiere, Walcott (Diaby)
- beat Liverpool's first string 6-3.

Spurs are likely to field a strong team, but it'll be close.

Carling cup winner does not get European football.

In Scotland we also have 3 trophies and even the top teams take it seriously despite their not being a european place at the end of it.

The Football League Cup, commonly known as the League Cup, is an English football competition. Like the FA Cup, it is played on a knockout (single elimination) basis. Unlike the FA Cup where 674 teams entered in 2005–06, only 92 clubs can enter: the 20 clubs of the FA Premier League, and the 72 clubs of The Football League who organise the competition. Also unlike the FA Cup, the semi-finals are played over two legs. The winners qualify for the UEFA Cup, if they have not qualified for European competition in some other way.

If the Carling cup does infact get a UEFA cup spot for the winner if they havent qualified in any other way, then that means that England has one more European spot than any other nation. One more than Italy and Spain atleast.

Whys that?I thought England,Spain and Italy had equal European spots.

The Carling cup should be canceled
That is so true, not only that England has 38 rounds in the Premiership, yet they have Carling AND FA Cup, Carling Cup is really un-neccessary.

BTW Tottenham 2 - 2 Arsenal

-----Berbatov (12)----Baptista (64)
---Baptista (og 21)----Baptista (77)

Woooot, another Korean in the Premier League!

Pity about the name though - he should've consulted with an English speaker about the Romanisation :disagree: Dong-Gook is just too much ammunition...

Middlesbrough granted work permit for Lee Dong-Gook

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate today completed his first piece of transfer-window business after South Korea striker Lee Dong-Gook was awarded a work permit.

The 27-year-old has signed an 18-month contract after Pohang Steelers handed him a free transfer.

He has now flown back to his own country to complete the formality of obtaining a visa and is expected to be unveiled by Boro next week.

Lee is one of the biggest talents in the Korean game and has scored 22 goals in 64 appearances for his country.

He missed last summer's World Cup finals with a cruciate ligament injury, but has impressed during a trial on Teesside.

Lee sparked something of a controversy in his own country when he joined Pohang Steelers straight from school rather than following the normal pattern of graduating from university before turning professional.

National-team boss Dick Advocaat was expected to use him prominently in Germany before injury struck.

Southgate will be delighted to have added further firepower to his squad, with Mark Viduka and Aiyegbeni Yakubu currently in rich veins of form.

However, since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's summer departure for Charlton, there has been little support for the big two with Massimo Maccarone seemingly on his way back to Italy and Malcolm Christie struggling to regain top form after a succession of injuries.

Lee could be available for the first time for Arsenal's visit to the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, March 3.

Meanwhile, Southgate will continue his efforts to re-shape his squad, with Maccarone and Ugo Ehiogu on the verge of completing moves to Siena and Rangers, respectively, while Ray Parlour and Gaizka Mendieta could soon follow them out of the door.

Southgate has expressed an interest in both West Brom midfielder Zoltan Gera and Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere, although progress has been slow with less than a week of the transfer window remaining.

Liverpool didn't play first-string against arsenal in the carling.
Dudek
Peltier-Hyypia-Paletti-Warnock (Alonso)
Aurelio-Gerrard-Guthrie-Gonzalez (Garcia(Carragher))
Fowler-Bellamy

the worst part was the injuries to Gonzalez and Garcia

He once spent a year (2000/2001 when we were not as good as today) loaned to Werder Bremen, but did not make it here. He won't be no use for Boro.
You're right, he was rubbish during his time at Bremen, but you never know... that was 6-7 years ago now, and he was only 20/21 at the time. Naturally, I've got my fingers crossed hoping he'll be great for Boro.

I always liked underdogs at Werder, players on the way up, if they make it or not, so good luck to Lee at Boro.
